Jayavant Dalvi has depicted a village in South Kokan in this novel. It holds us with a host of interesting characters of that time. A really aggressive Pavte Mastar, constantly fighting Aba Babuli; the theatrist Jiva Shingi & others, come against a lively backdrop of Ravalanth Mandir, the Utsav, the primary school, and the Sunday market! These are the people whose lives are very open, candid in their entire environment.

This is a story of Nandini and Bhaskar, a prosperous middle-aged couple leading a good, meaningful, and successful life. Independent yet emotionally involved, this couple goes to a sea-side resort to enjoy an undisturbed vacation. Nandini advertently comments on one of her past experiences. Bhaskar is stunned by that, yet is steady. Nadini, also, is not perturbed. In this story, we see a couple that has deeper understanding of each other, a couple which finds unison in the serenity of the sea.

This is a love story of Shitu, a child widow with pure heart and of Visu, a boy with bravado of youth and a soft heart. The story starts when Shitu, a two time child widow, is given shelter by Visus father. The entire story revolves around both of them, their world, and their unspoken relationship.

The story of Yayati is perhaps one of the most intriguing and fascinating episodes of Mahabharata. Yayati was a great scholar and one of the noblest rulers of olden times. He followed the shastras and was devoted to the welfare of his subjects. Even the king of gods, Indra, held him in high esteem. Married to seductively beautiful Devyani, in love with her maid Sharmishtha, and father of five sons from two women, Yayati unabashedly declared, 'My lust for pleasure is unsatisfied'. His quest for the carnal continued.

It is an irony of fate that despite being an extremely important and immortal character in the saga of Mahabharata, Ashwatthama has always been neglected. There are other characters in puranic literature, including Ashwatthama, who are considered immortal. But where other characters have received immortality in the form of a boon, Ashwatthama received in the form of a curse!
