THE LANDMARK MEMOIR OF A GLOBAL MUSIC ICON
SHORTLISTED FOR THE IRISH BOOK AWARDS 2021
Sinéad O'Connor's voice and trademark shaved head made her famous by the age of twenty-one. Her recording of Prince's 'Nothing Compares 2 U' made her a global icon. She outraged millions when she tore up a photograph of Pope John Paul II on American television.
O'Connor was unapologetic and impossible to ignore, calling out hypocrisy wherever she saw it. She remained that way for over three decades.
In her acclaimed No 1 bestselling memoir Rememberings, O'Connor told her story - the heartache of growing up in a family falling apart; her early forays into the Dublin music scene; her adventures and misadventures in the world of sex, drugs and rock'n'roll; the fulfilment of being a mother; her ongoing spiritual quest - and through it all, her abiding passion for music.
Rememberings is intimate, replete with candid anecdotes and full of hard-won insights. It is a unique and remarkable chronicle by a unique and remarkable artist.

a must for a fan so so for others
For fans 4. None fans 3.
1988 my friend introduces me to pink floyd. I think of him the coolest but then i introduced him to sinead and i become king. We had nothing to do except books and music. So i kind of had a long relationship with her, i idealized her.
The book leaves a lot not said. But it shows a glimpse into her early life, and how settling it is to finally have a good relationship with God Allah The one The kind Almighty.

highly recommended
loved this. 'twas like sitting at the kitchen table and hearing her tell entertaining stories about a unique and unconventional life, but way more; she reveals her self and her soul with honesty, vulnerability and humor. not literature, but high storytelling, as is the Irish tradition

The honest and beautiful account of a hero of our time
I already loved Sinéad before reading but it was both heartbreaking and inspiring to hear the parts I knew nothing about and the details of the parts I did. I love her more for her story. It’s true to her integrity that reads it herself in that beautiful voice of hers. God bless her. I’m thankful she exists in our world.

So personal and raw
Absolutely loved it. The more I listened the more I wanted. I just wanted to hold her and comfort her. She became so real while listening to her. What an opportunity for her to correct everything that has been said about her and leave beautiful acknowledgements for the people that she held so dear. I am glad she managed to record this before she crossed over. May she feel loved, held, revered, and know the effect she has had on people. I Hope her kids are proud of her. I am sure it wasn’t easy for them. Maybe this will help them understand.

Thanks Shuhada/Sinead. I only just found out that you wrote a book so I rushed here to listen to it! You didn"t need anymore qualifications to help me - your work helps me a lot. I won't say that I hope that you're doing ok coz I think you hate that! 🙂 All the best, Love Theresa

Honest, disturbing, endearing, soul searching.
It was a surprise that the author was the narrator and non the less detracting.
There were tears in my eyes in the first 5 minutes. Despite the negative media depictions of an unhinged angry person with massive chip on her shoulder with the inability to process thoughts and emotions further than an incoherent kaleidoscope of word salad; it is in fact a thoughtful honest account of her life that will shock, intrigue, endear and at times confirm what was suspected. Be sure to have plenty of time as it's very difficult to break away from. for those who have only bought the hard copy I suggest you buy both because to miss the narrative will rob you of the full flavor of this gem of a recount.

WOW !!
Only half way thru this book and I can’t turn it off. I’ve been a fan since the first album and shaved my head in 1991 when I got into music college singing one of her songs.
This is a must even if you’re not a massive fan. The story telling is like mindfulness and so relaxing. What a life this great woman has had and I thought I heard her songs before but I’m hearing them all over again with context.
Excellent 👍

Beautifully told.
I was only really familiar with Nothing Compares to You but heard Sinead on Woman’s Hour and felt compelled to get this book. Not disappointed, is an understatement. Her voice and story telling is amazing and I loved every minute. An amazing human being, a wonderful story.

interesting insight to the real life
what a life. too much too young, but staggeringly strong-minded despite her youth and vulnerability. The hate she received after the JP stunt is reminiscent of the hate being levelled at so many young famous women today who don't play the societal expectations game. Her insight of psychiatric care was interesting and I'm guessing she could probably write an entire book on that alone. The inept medical care she received after her radical hysterectomy explains her recent publicised breakdown and shows that fame doesn't guarantee good care. A good listen, with a fair number of really engaging recollections of special meetings with some famous folk. I would recommend this to anyone interested in real people who dont sell out.

So lovely to hear things in her own words not the trashy media. What a sad day to leave a review as she has passed. With her mom and son again. rip

didnt get any juice
book was ok, but didnt really learn anything new about her life that you wouldnt find on wikipedia or youtube. so im a bit disappointed to be honest. plus from 1992 to 2015 she said she cant remember that time of her life so there is nothing really in the book about this time which is quite a lot of life not to write about. on the whole sinead is a great narrator of the book and there are some bit i laught out loud too but i really wanted a bit more

A Fascinating (if occasionally Difficult) Bio
I have always been intrigued by Sinead O'Connor and I thought this could be an interesting book as a result. It didn't let me down. I won't spoil the story for people new to the book but the insights into her childhood were shocking (to me at least). That said I found the book lost it's way as it got past her twenties (and the fame). I feel Sinead wanted to set the record straight about certain parts of her more recent past and as a result wanted to put them into the story even though on the grander scale they were an anti-climax after the start of the book. It also goes into a breakdown of the key songs on her albums and the thought process and meaning behind each one. This is likely fascinating for her hardcore fans but I have to confess this was my least interesting part of the book for me. At times Sinead also seems to be 'thinking out loud' and recording her thoughts into the book. This can be a little bit disruptive to the flow and unfortunately doesn't add anything to the story (apart from possible a greater understanding of what goes in in her head). All in all I enjoyed the book and would like to thank Ms O'Connor for taking the time to write it.

Best listen in a very long time
Once I started I couldn’t stop listening to the funny, honest, and at times hypnotic words of Sinnead. I laughed and I cried. What an engaging story and what a life.

Poignant, moving, inspiring and magnificent
Sinead O’Connor is quite simply a magnificent person. Her honesty is breathtaking and her genius is evident in the pages of this book. It reflects a person unashamedly able to express everything they are. We could learn a lot from Sinead O’Connor, she has been a visionary in many ways and with this book maybe encouraging us to all open up and let it all be there, the good with the bad, the soft with the raw. Human in and all it’s divinity shining through. Amazing.

WOW! What a force. She has the rawness of a wild animal and endless passion and empathy for the broken. I was a fan before because I loved her voice. I am a bigger fan now because I love her soul.

A book I will not forget
I loved this So much. Painfully honest, incredibly revealing and also very funny in places. Sinead is nakedly open about her journey and has a wisdom and unapologetic perspective on her life so far. I was always a fan, but now I'm a devotee.

Loved it
I read it in paperback, but it's better in her own voice. Sinead writes with honesty and humour, providing an insight into her own challenging story and the music industry. She's incredible.

Giving it all away
It’s a testament to her life. Sinead gives you a taste of the good, the bad and the downright horrendous. I’ve been on her trip through life.. since her first release - the sideshows, the shadows and the sun. Some stories change, some are strange as she lifts the lid and let’s you taste her. Intelligent, honest, stripped down, unashamed sad and funny. She’s gone, leaving sad. No more Troy for her to burn.
I don’t believe in anything after death, I know this, a shitload of energy, love, rage, tears and beauty was extinguished and left a bloody large hole. Go well, girl.

Beautiful & so heartbreaking in retrospect
I was a huge fan of Sinead in the 90’s, I loved her faith & courage album & was so sad when she died. Listening to her recall her early life & explain the trauma that led to large gaps in her memory & her story, her forgiveness & humour shone through as she shared, as did her real want to love & plans for a future that she hopes would bring her meaning & peace on the service of others.
Those last few lines of the epilogue though, just left me shattered.

Tragic beautiful
Such a great memoir so beautifully written and told. Whenever she told the story behind the song I'd stop the book and listen on Spotify. I loved hearing these songs I grew up with again and some is never heard.
So awful to hear about the loss of her son Shane which was so recent and well after publication.
