Publisher's Summary

A troubled young mother yearns for a shot at redemption in this heartbreaking yet hopeful story from #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover.

After serving five years in prison for a tragic mistake, Kenna Rowan returns to the town where it all went wrong, hoping to reunite with her four-year-old daughter. But the bridges Kenna burned are proving impossible to rebuild. Everyone in her daughter’s life is determined to shut Kenna out, no matter how hard she works to prove herself.

The only person who hasn’t closed the door on her completely is Ledger Ward, a local bar owner and one of the few remaining links to Kenna’s daughter. But if anyone were to discover how Ledger is slowly becoming an important part of Kenna’s life, both would risk losing the trust of everyone important to them.

The two form a connection despite the pressure surrounding them, but as their romance grows, so does the risk. Kenna must find a way to absolve the mistakes of her past in order to build a future out of hope and healing.

Critic Reviews

“Narrators Brittany Pressley and Ryan West depict a story of triumph in a hopeless situation.… The audiobook has excellent pacing and gives equal attention to the relationships among Kenna, Ledger, and Diem. Pressley so expertly illustrates Kenna's desperation that listeners will hope for her redemption. While the two narrators have opposite approaches, West as gruff Ledger and Pressley as wilted Kenna, they complement each other as the audiobook progresses.”AudioFile Magazine

“The narration of Hoover's novel is split between Kenna's and Ledger's perspectives, skillfully brought to life in the audiobook by Brittany Pressley and Ryan West. A contemporary romance with wide appeal. Hoover's novel realistically depicts reactions to heartache, and the narrators' performances underscore the relatability of her characters.”Library Journal

“Hoover delves deep into grief and guilt to create a multifaceted redemption story for a cast of characters who fight as fiercely as they love. Fans won’t be disappointed.”Publishers Weekly

a must-listen for everyone.

It's a beautiful book. Wonderfully written by Hoover. She's quickly becoming one of my favourite writers. Narration was at par as well, except that Ledger sounds like a 40-yr old man, not 28.
Got me teary-eyed in quite a few places. Loved every bit.

Every narration was fantastic except for Ledger

I loved the story, I highly recommend you this book. Ledger was a bit too tough, cz I have the book with me I pictured his voice to be a bit smoother and not that rough.

Well written book

I’ve read all of Colleen Hoover’s books and am a huge fan of her style of writing. This particular book did not disappoint and held true to her writing style. The plot was solid, the characters were very relatable and the overall storytelling process was well-done. If you are a Colleen Hoover fan or just looking for a good book to start reading from her, this is a good start. There of course is tragedy in the book as there is in almost all of her books, but this one had a good sense of hope that keeps you reading. Overall enjoyable read.

Oh my weary heart..

Well, It’s a little hard to see what I am typing through the tears that have been flowing out of my eyes for the past two hours but what an emotional and incredible journey that Colleen Hoover just took me on. I am not sure how it’s possible but I feel like the learning curve I was exposed to of loss and perception in this book has helped shape my mind a little. Thank you Colleen Hoover! ❤️❤️

Colleen Hoover does it again!

I inhaled this book the day it was released and couldn’t stop listening. I was moved to tears several times, and loved the way the author builds up the tension of the story by trickling details of the characters lives out slowly.

The narrators have an excellent performance and brought the story to life. I can’t wait for Hoover’s next book.

Perfect summer holiday read.

You immediately buy into the character's life, As the tale takes you on an unconventional path through heartache and loss. I enjoyed this book, not my normal genre but pleasant enough.

Cheesy

Two-dimensional characters and a storyline that could have worked on Days of Our Lives. No idea how this has been rated so highly. Brittany's performance was annoying, she always sounded like everything was just....so....haaaaaaard. I understand the character is going through an awful time, but the OTT performance was grating.

Emotionally Wrenching

This was a novel that stirred me emotionally. As a mother, I could engage with the protagonist whole heartedly. However, I was pleased the author included witty phrases and statements which made me laugh providing a break from all the psychological tensions. The ending was predictable but pleasing.
