Vijay Kumar wird zufällig Zeuge, wie die Dokumentarfilmerin Pina Gilardi auf offener Straße niedergestochen wird. Kurz zuvor hat der indischstämmige Privatdetektiv sie noch in Begleitung einer merkwürdig vermummten Person gesehen. Da die im Koma liegende Filmemacherin nichts zum Geschehen aussagen kann, engagiert ihre Lebensgefährtin Vijay, der herausfinden soll, was hinter der Tat steckt. Er erfährt, dass Gilardi erst jüngst aus Indien zurückgekehrt ist, wo sie nach Jahren erneut das Thema aufgegriffen hat, mit dem sie berühmt wurde: die Lebensbedingungen HIV-positiver Menschen.

Als Vijay dieser Spur folgt und in das Land seiner Vorfahren reist, muss er sich unerwarteten Gefahren stellen – und das nicht nur, weil seine Familie mal wieder große Pläne mit ihm hat …
