Publisher's Summary

You're not going home. You're not going anywhere. You're mine now.

Growing up in a deeply troubled family, 15-year-old Anna felt lost and alone in the world. So when a friendly taxi driver befriended her, Anna welcomed the attention, and agreed to go home with him to meet his family. She wouldn't escape for over a decade.

Held captive by a sadistic pedophile, Anna was subjected to despicable levels of sexual abuse and torture. The unrelenting violence and degradation resulted in numerous miscarriages, and the birth of four babies.... each one stolen away from Anna at birth.

Her salvation arrived 13 years too late, but despite her shattered mind and body, Anna finally managed to flee. This is her harrowing, yet uplifting, true story of survival.

Contains mature themes.

Awful story, feel so bad for her

Should of been shorter. Too many repeated abuse stories. Wish the ending would of had the attacker and family arrested.

Thirteen years in hell

This story sounds too awful to believe. It is difficult to believe that people can be so depraved that they would subject another human being to the pain and horrible treatment this young lady underwent. How she survived shows the indomitable strength of the human spirit. I have listened to this story fifteen or twenty times and still wonder how she survived.

If you can get through the very graphic abuse

After the first chapter, I turned the volume down each time the main character was being raped or abused. It was too much for me. I can't understand how anyone can be so cruel and it made me very angry.
This story captures the tragic life of a vulnerable young girl who is abducted by a sadistic predator who preys on her because she is alone. Being a mere child, she does everything in order to survive and nothing to escape while given many chances. No matter what she endures, rapes, abuse, being a baby making factory . After 13 years she finally escapes, burdened for her it seems, with the trauma of what happened to her.

Too much for me

The story is absolutely horrible and scary. Written and performed really well but I couldn’t go past first chapter as it is just painful to listen.

well written

It was a well written book. I know this happens more than we hear about. This book was sometimes hard to read, just unbelievable that she was so stong throughout her whole ordeal.

So unrealistic

I have read a lot of true stories. This one seems so far-fetched I have a very hard time believing most of it. There were way too many inconsistencies and questions left, and not one person to corroborate anything at all. (The one social worker who saved her was fired and is not allowed to speak with her, even at her new job?)
The writer seems to fixate so much on graphic rape and violence to the point of monotony. This is why I'm a little perplexed as too why I have seen so many five star reviews of this book!

Left me speechless

Faye Adele does an amazing job narrating this book. The story literally left me speechless. I cannot begin to imagine what this lady had gone through, what it was like, or how it continues to haunt her. As well as other women/children who share story. I pray for all of them.

Why wouldn't you?

the story keeps your attention the fact that this is based on a true story and she never went to the police when she was free is the reason I've gave it a four-star because that's the least she could have done so that other girls did not fall in the hands of this monster.

Lost for words

This account is simply awe inspiring! I cannot believe that these terrible events weren’t stopped on the number of occasions that professionals became involved!
Far more questions should have been asked m!
I hope that we can learn a number of valuable lessons.
Well done for telling your side - the truth! What a huge amount of strength you have!

Very graphic.

Good to hear a story of survival, but the descriptions of her trauma are very graphic and detailed so be prepared. Not for the faint hearted.

Fantastic read, my heart goes out to Anna Ruston.

My heart ached listening to this ladies horrible "life" how she trudged on just biding her time to set out her escape, Many men or women would have given up with life after experiencing all of this but thank you Anna for giving us an insight as to what you want through :( but I'm so happy she has now found her love, who she always kept that place in her heart for him 😘

An extremely hard listen

I have listened to many books describing horrific life ordeals, this one though, was an extremely hard one to listen to! Yet I couldn’t stop because I needed to know that this little girl has found a way out! My heart goes to her, and to all people suffering abuse. I gave the story only 2 starts because it seemed inappropriate to give it a high rating considering how bad the little girl suffered. 5 starts for her courage to speak up and put it in writing. I just hope that she would summon the courage to seek justice for herself.

Ummmm

I’m so sorry if this is true. However there are loads that just don’t ring true like for instance when Sally helped her escape she went to the doctors on a Saturday what doctors open at weekends. And after all the abuse she ended up having 8 healthy babies really and after her escape the love of her life just walks back into it. It’s just to far fetched for me

Traumatic

The book is very hard to listen too, the thought that someone can take so much abuse mentally and physically. I found myself getting cross that she didn’t run or tell the dr’s at the hospital, or the police when they called after neighbors reported the noise. But that no one took notice at the obvious trauma that she was suffering is worse. Shame on them. The person who finally helped her, I feel sorry for, to lose your job for helping, is disgusting. I was upset at the end of the book. But I suppose that’s real life.

Warning: Graphic scenes of abuse

I couldn't get past the first few chapters. Absolutely terrible what this girl had to endure, but it should come with some sort of warning for how graphic it is. I've read a lot of harrowing things before, but this was just too much. Returning.

This Story Has Never Been Corroborated

Firstly, if this story is indeed true, then I am very sorry for the author. But with that said, much of how this story is written seems fabricated.
I have read many auto/biographies dealing with this subject matter and there is something about this particular story that seems a bit off.
Because of my suspicions that at least part of this story is pure fantasy, a few chapters into this book I decided to do some further research.
There seems to be no available evidence that the author’s story has ever been corroborated by any independent witnesses and the author has never gone to the police.
I believe this novel may be a collage of other real victim’s experiences poorly written into a single story and sold as the author’s own.
This is just my opinion so please do your own research and come to your own conclusions.

Slightly disappointed

It was almost as though I could hear a fish tank or some type of trickling water in the background throughout. At the risk of victim blaming, its frustrating at times throughout listening to the amount of missed opportunities, but I suppose no one could understand until they were in that position.

Sad tragic story of abuse

This is a book that has a gripping tale of sexual abuse & violence. I did find it very hard to listen to the parts that described her abuse in such detail. This is a very sad story with only partially a happy ending - I hope she finds the strength to prosecute the monster and his entire family.

heavy but well written

it's hard to rate a book that's based on such an horrific experience but in respect to the author, it was well written.
my rating is based on that and not the content.
the narrator did an amazing job separating characters as well.
not for anyone under 18 or anyone who suffers PTSD from similar trauma as this would be highly triggering.

Unbelievable story

This was a story you will not soon forget filled with the most evil treatment of an innocent child at the hands of a disgusting excuse for a human being & his family who are equally as evil. No one should ever have to have lived these horrors. Please take the time and listen to Anna’s story. She is one incredible woman.

Narrator was brilliant. Story was heartbreaking.

Incredibly sad situation. Can't believe this really happened. Couldn't put this book down, I just wanted to hear how it ended.

Thumbs up to the narrator.
