Publisher's Summary

Now a student at Wurthaven, Will is confronted with the truth of the present.

The powerful magic embodied by wizards like his grandfather is but a distant memory. Though the practice of the current day is timid and uninspired, Will needs the knowledge that’s preserved and managed by the college. At every turn he finds that sorcery is supreme, while wizards are trained merely to assist and support those who hold the real power - a power based on an evil so deep that few who are living know the truth of its foundation.

As a student of wizardry, he’s expected to know his place and stay in it, but Will isn’t like the other students. His grandfather’s teaching has made him into something different, something forgotten - something they will learn to fear.

If he can grow into his power, with every choice, every refusal to submit, Will creates more enemies, enemies who aren’t content to let him live in peace. Without friends or support, Will must survive the knives in the dark, for Cerria is no place for those who refuse to follow the rules.

Series gets better and better!

Michael G. Manning is now one of my favourite author. If you're interested in protagonist, fantasy series, this is one of the best. I observed that many writers fail to maintain the quality throughout the series and it often downgrades, here that is not the case. You'll surely enjoy this one.

Excellent Series!!!

This book is a great continuation of the series. Great magic system. The MC isn't over or under powered. It actually delves a little into the history of his grandfather which was sorely needed. The narrator is excellent . Just go ahead and buy this one if you liked the first.

F-bombs in every other sentence

Warning every other sentence has an F-bomb or four letter expletives. The story line is passable but definitely not one of his best.

To predictable

The first one had at least some mystery, but this one was way to predictable. It left nothing to the imagination, the moment the questions were asked or events happened, there was no "holy sh.."moment.

The MC is still the same blushing zero intelligence idiot, though he gets a bonus of IQ later on but barely,

The relationship he has feel to forced and awkward, It feels more like a check mark "must have" when writing a book.

Absolutely Wonderful

probably one of the most enjoyable sequels to a book series I have ever read. it never felt like it hit a valley it always kept me at a happy medium and then hit me with good highs even that points when I felt uncomfortable it brought right back around and made me keep listening.

Extremely fun voiceacting and story

Will. Is. A. Dumb. Ass.
but I'm glad he is called out for it.
Most Authors will make an annoying Character and then unnaturally give them reasons for doing something stupid just for story but this book balances it out with the surrounding characters bringing logic to the world by calling him out on his stupidity. he annoys me most of the time but I enjoy being able to feel kinship with the people that are also annoyed by his stupidity

Finally, a truly wonderful Fantasy series!

I never take the time to write reviews. This series is so perfect that I was compelled to make the effort. I consume books in this genre on a massive scale. Consequently, I am often disappointed. Not so with Michael Manning's Art of the Adept. These books are never repetitive. There's no hard slog to get through until there's some action. The books build on each other artfully. The language is perfect and I can't stop calling my cat, "The God Damn Cat." I won't offer spoilers or a story summary. I hate when reviewers do that. I'll just say that if you love fantasy and have read all the greats and you are looking for a good series to sink your teeth into, this is it!
P.S. the narration is spot on!

Couldnt finish it.

Character does not grow at all. Quit being mad at how stupid his decisions are.

Great series for slightly older listeners... colorful language abound.

Continuation of a great series. Story is solid, thought out and at times emotional.

simply amazing

I got so invested in this that I skipped work for 2 days to listen to this all the way through. Such a good book had me emotionally invested in the story and had just the right amount of suspense.

I hope in a book in the future asilin manages to free herself from her husband

Brilliant

Listened to 1st instalment and had to continue with this book straight away. Found myself laughing out loud many times. Not a fan of the narrator but luckily I continued to push through and throughly enjoyed it.

Great Sequel and another great performance from TGR. Storyline warped a bit and didn't live up to the first book, but still well worth the listen. looking forward to another sequel hopefully.

A much loved addition

The storytelling is incredibly interesting, and some faults I held with the first story disappeared in this one. While I didn't get closure on some storylines I had expected, I wasn't disappointed by it. A great performance by Tim Reynolds.
