Publisher's Summary

A new stand-alone contemporary romance that's faster, steamier, grittier...but with the emotional impact you've come to expect from New York Times best-selling author Mia Sheridan.

Wealthy socialite Olivia Barton never imagined her fiancé would disappear on what was supposed to be a routine business trip. She's even more heartbroken and confused when a hired private investigator tracks him half a world away, to a seaside town in Colombia. But the country has recently been ravaged by a massive earthquake and deadly tsunami, shutting down outside communication and making travel all but impossible. Still, Olivia is determined to make it to Colombia to find the answers she so desperately seeks. What she needs is a guide - a mercenary.

The man named Thomas arrives in shadows, an unmistakable air of danger about him, promising to help lead her through the ruined, crime-infested country. But when Thomas and Olivia find themselves fighting an undeniable attraction, danger takes on a whole new meaning. Then again, in the lush jungles of South America, all the rules are different, and Thomas and Olivia are about to discover that sometimes the thing you seek isn't necessarily the thing you find.

Not one of Sheridan's Best

I'm not even halfway through listening and know this story is not one of Sheridan's better stories. A bit disappointing as some of her other stories I've listened to are much better. It could be in part due to the narrators chosen as they are maybe not the best choice. I do wish writers would not write their female characters out to be so--- dense? Unintelligent? I'm not sure of the exact word but for gosh sakes, write them to be a bit smarter than what she has this Olivia chick. I don't care if you're a city or country girl- if you're going to a country such as Columbia, for gosh sakes write the character to do some research about the land, people, crime, etc. Wouldn't that just be common sense? I don't care if she's going for pleasure or to find the long lost fiancé, give the girl some brains.

What an adventure!

I have always enjoyed Mia's books! My favorite being Leo. I couldn't resist and used my credit on Seek. I have listened to all of her books and enjoy her Sign of Love (Zodiac) series. It's a shorter listen for me, but I LOVED it! Leo is still my favorite, but I rank Seek in my top 4 of Mia's books. I was not disappointed with this suspenseful, Columbia adventure trip. A stranger from the past (from one of her other books) makes an appearance. The steam occurs towards 3/4 of the book. Yes, worth my credit!

Animal abuse

The story was good , but I almost didn’t listen due to animal abuse. I skipped forward quite a bit. There were dog fighting rings....so unnecessary for a good story .

great book

For being a shirt book, I loved the depth of story and characters. The path to love felt rushed though. and the guy who read shouted the intimate scenes which was distracting.

Great story

I was glad to hear Carson Stinger mentioned because Stinger is my favorite Mia Sheridan book of all time. This book was good but I felt like the ending was rushed and you didn't really get a picture of what their life was like after reuniting. I enjoyed the narrators.

wish I had ignored the reviews and listened sooner !

I agree with the reviews that point out that it seemed rushed and the story went from 0 to 60 BUT Mia’s story depth doesn’t disappoint . Liked this book a lot partially because it’s wasn’t 12 hours of angst and back & forth.

Mia, what happened?

1. Stephen Dexter's narration got me through this mess of a book.
2. The female narrator was awful. Sounds like a teenage girl and that doesn't translate well.
3. Nonsensical. Had potential, but Mia must've been sick? The story went off the tracks about the time Olivia and Thomas stumbled on the drug field, rapidly going downhill from there. The deal with her former fiancee and Harper felt contrived with no development of that part of the story.
4. A waste of time and money.

Not a typical Mia Sheridan book

This book was so very different than any other Mia Sheridan book I have read so far and I am choosing to believe that it is because it was half as long as her typical books. I am also choosing to believe that she was trying something new or doing the best she could with unforeseen circumstances when the time came to write this one. So I am not giving up on her yet, I will continue down my journey of listening to all of the books written by Mia, one of my new favorite authors, to see if I am right or not, but I have faith that I am. Usually the only thing wrong with a Mia Sheridan book is the narrator (not all the time but more often than not) and while there was some other things off about this one, like the pace of it, the narrators were typical for a Mia Sheridan book. One was great and the other... one not so much. If you are new to the writings of The Great Mia Sheridan, do yourself a favor and please don’t start with this one or you could very well miss out on some of the greatest love stories in history. Maybe start with the “Wish Collector” or “Savaged” and come back to this one after completing several more of hers if you still want to read it/hear it. Enjoy!

Amazing story, amazing narration!!

Both narrators bring this story and its characters to life with inflection and emotion. This is why Stephen Dexter and Callie Dalton are two of my favorite narrators!

This romance is full of action, adventure and mystery. The plot twists and building romance kept me listening. Highly recommend!

Enjoyable listen

More of an action romance and a bit different to Mia Sheridan’s usual stories, but still enjoyed it a lot. Similar to Jay Crownover and Tillie Cole action romance books, though those have the brutal action on the page, whereas in this story the brutal bits are only referred to by characters.
