John lebt seit Jahren zurückgezogen in einem einsamen Landhaus. Im Kalten Krieg hat er als Waffe für den US-Geheimdienst CIA gearbeitet. Als "Seher 001" im Project Stargate war es unter anderem seine Aufgabe, durch Fernwahrnehmung vermisste Personen aufzuspüren. Seit vielen Jahren hat er mit niemandem mehr darüber gesprochen. Bis eines Tages ein verzweifelter Mann an seine Tür klopft und ihn anfleht, ihm zu helfen. Seine Tochter Amy sei vor zwei Jahren entführt worden und er seine letzte Hoffnung. John lässt sich schließlich auf die Suche nach der Wahrheit ein, ohne jedoch zu ahnen, in welche dunklen Geheimnisse er dabei hineingezogen wird.
