Publisher's Summary

In Simple Genius, David Baldacci reintroduces the main characters from best sellers Split Second and Hour Game.

Sean King and Michelle Maxwell are both haunted by their last case. Realizing that Michelle is teetering on the brink of self-destruction from long-buried demons, Sean arranges therapy for his reluctant partner. But instead of focusing on her recovery, Michelle unearths disturbing secrets in the hospital....

Sean accepts a much-needed job. A physicist, Monk Turing, has died in mysterious circumstances near Babbage Town - a secretive establishment populated by an eccentric group of scientists and cryptographers, funded by an anonymous but powerful group. Meanwhile the dead man's young daughter, piano-playing prodigy Viggie, has secrets of her own. But what is the significance of the phrase 'codes and blood'?

Directly across the York River from Babbage Town lies the sinister CIA training ground Camp Peary, where Monk Turing's body was found. With both the FBI and CIA breathing down Sean's neck, can he discover the truth? And will he be in time to save Michelle from herself?

Simple Genius is followed by First Family, The Sixth Man and King and Maxwell.

Simply Genius

Another great listen from David Baldacci, with good narration by Scott Brick.
The loss of a 'performance' star is due to a few minor glitches in the audio.

Skip. Boring story dictated by a bullet-spitting voice from 1950s news stories.

Yet another one!

David Baldacci never disappoints! His books are always up there between entertaining and absolute page turners and this one is no exception. An interesting read that holds your attention to the end with likeable characters and good narration by Scott Brick.

Dirty government tricks!!!

Brilliant story telling. So unique it’s refreshing. The two main characters have great dialogue and presence . This was a page turner full of excitement, twists and turns and thoroughly enjoyable. This series is the tops.

Irritating incidental music

I love the book, just as action packed as I have come to expect from David Baldacci, shame about the unnecessary incidental music

Spoilt by music and poor quality audio

What disappointed you about Simple Genius?

naff music and back ground sounds - gun shots etc. Plus poor quality audio kept skipping and jumping - I returned it

Any additional comments?

Story was good, like the characters and narratives of Sam - good reading - but really did it need the special effects? Notice that future books by DB have 2 narrators - boy and girl - won't be reading anymore - I'm listening to a book not a play.

Unbelievable story lines

I usually enjoy David Baldacci's novels but this one had two story lines that were totally unbelievable. I don't want to 'spoil' the plots for others but I was sceptical about one story line from the start of the novel and the other joined it very soon after. The two story lines do have merit but the ways in which both were developed were far too fantastic to be credible. The narrator was good.

Sorry couldn’t listen any more

I tried for about an hour but the story was taking soooo long and sooo not likely I had to stop as stopped listening. A shame as the two main characters are very likeable.

Like a super hero movie

If you like blockbuster movies such as Marvel super heroes then you will probably love this book. It is totally in your face and action packed. The narrator is very energetic and energised. There is no subtlety to his narration.
I am not certain that my criticism does not say more about me than it does the book and the author-after all he sells books by the lorry load. This book came after listening to Mick Herron’s new book which, as always, was read beautifully and intelligently by Sean Barrett.
All in all, if you dig blockbusters- go for it. If you prefer rather more subtlety and nuance then look elsewhere.

Great story but is ruined by weird sound effects.

I have purchased an audiobook to basically have someone read the story to me, without the ridiculous "value add" sound effects that are distracting and frankly patronising.

Please stop disrespecting the performer and authors work by trying to make it something it is not. David Baldacci, Scott Brink (and I) don't need it.

As for the story, this is not the strongest in the King & Maxwell series but still a solid story, well told.

Narrator is very hard to listen to.

I've enjoyed all Daids other books on Audible but I had no idea wot was going on in this one because the narrator was so hard to listen to
