FBI-Agent Robert Flinn verließ San Francisco und kam nach Los Angeles, um mit seiner Vergangenheit abzuschließen. Das fällt ihm schwerer als erhofft. Robert stellt keine hohen Ansprüche an das Leben. Doch das Schicksal oder wer auch immer sich einen Spaß daraus macht, Robert verhöhnen zu wollen, sorgt dafür, dass die zwei Männer gemeinsam einem Rätsel auf die Spur kommen müssen. Dabei geschieht etwas, womit beide niemals gerechnet hätten: Aus Abneigung wird Anziehung.
