Publisher's Summary

An Amazon Charts and USA Today bestseller.

Gina Royal is the definition of average—a shy Midwestern housewife with a happy marriage and two adorable children. But when a car accident reveals her husband’s secret life as a serial killer, she must remake herself as Gwen Proctor—the ultimate warrior mom.

With her ex now in prison, Gwen has finally found refuge in a new home on remote Stillhouse Lake. Though still the target of stalkers and Internet trolls who think she had something to do with her husband’s crimes, Gwen dares to think her kids can finally grow up in peace.

But just when she’s starting to feel at ease in her new identity, a body turns up in the lake—and threatening letters start arriving from an all-too-familiar address. Gwen Proctor must keep friends close and enemies at bay to avoid being exposed—or watch her kids fall victim to a killer who takes pleasure in tormenting her. One thing is certain: she’s learned how to fight evil. And she’ll never stop.

Mediocre story, Awful narration

Not much substance in the story, lots of repetition, bland.

The reason for this review, however, is to warn you that the quality of the narration is very poor, particularly when the narrator tries on various accents. I recommend sticking to the ebook or hardback for this one.

Exceptional Book

Loved this book so much. I never knew about Rachel Caine before this. the way she has written the situations in the book are fantastic.
they are not too detailed like , "a pin drop silence was understatement for the ambience around her in the middle of the night, she thought the silence was so deafening that she could even hear the fly and it's wings flapping"
and it wasn't blunt like , it was midnight and it was dark and silent", she wrote the most accurate level of details that makes the story super interesting (FYI I made those sentences up, they are not spoilers...)
many instances in the book has showed how Gina Royale was a very strong woman and that portrait of her is phenomenal and it's on the line thru out.
just loved the book so much.

It’s good...

Liked the book, the narrator is also good. But for the story it could be better...saw few twists coming beforehand. But overall a good experience.

great narration

Story is fast moving, keeps you engrossed but then the story fails to keep up the momentum with which it started..

A moderately good thriller

I was expecting a mind-blowing read, but it turned out to be just ok.
