Publisher's Summary

A History of Medieval Civilization (Christian, Islamic, and Judaic) from Constantine to Dante, AD 325 - 1300

The fourth volume in Will Durant's Pulitzer Prize-winning series, The Age of Faith surveys the medieval achievements and modern significance of Christian, Islamic, and Judaic life and culture. Like the other volumes in the Story of Civilization series, this is a self-contained work, which at the same time fits into a comprehensive history of mankind. It includes the dramatic stories of St. Augustine, Hypatia, Justinian, Mohammed, Harun al-Rashid, Charlemagne, William the Conqueror, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Richard the Lionheart, Saladin, Maimonides, St. Francis, St. Thomas Aquinas, Roger Bacon, and many others, all in the perspective of integrated history. The greatest love stories in literature - of Héloise and Abélard, of Dante and Beatrice - are here retold with enthralling scholarship.

From Darkness to The Threshold of Light

An ambitious content structured uniquely and written with the aim to captivate. The words of Will Durant are ever wise in this book and paired with Stefan Rudnikki's voice creates a fascinating read.
The book is divided into parts that makes it easy to understand the different periods and regions. It focuses on the three monotheistic religions and their impact on Europe. The birth of Islam and the rise of Christianity to power are fascinating to read along with their clash during the Crusades. It discusses the dark ages in all parts of Europe and the eventual formation of states that would define modern day European nations. The Byzantine Civilization and its decline, Popes and Emperors, Feudalism and Chivalry, Latin and the Vernaculars, and Gothic Art - all make for a lengthy yet satisfying read.
Stefan's narration is top-tier, a God like voice in a book about Faith.
