Story
Humans have an inbuilt drive to search for their inner power and potentiality. This search is the search for life itself. We are here, we have life - but we don't know what life really is. We can feel our energy but don't know where this energy comes from and to what goal this energy is going. We are that energy; we have glimpses of its true source and our connection to it, and those glimpses keep us going even when it seems we will never find what we are seeking - but still we do not know what that energy is.

Story
Written more than 25 centuries ago, the Diamond Sutra is the first text to record the Buddha's own teachings, and it remains one of the most popular. Osho comments in a series of talks on these sutras and brings Buddha's teachings into the 21st century. One day, after the Buddha finishes his daily walk to collect alms, a senior monk steps forth to ask how he can best help humanity. Buddha responds, and thus begins a dialogue regarding the nature of perception.

Story
The Heart Sutra, originally a very short set of verses, was given in privacy as a message to one of Buddha's close disciples, Sariputra, specifically addressed to him. Over time the Heart Sutra became one of Buddhism's core teachings. In these 10 talks, Osho presents the powerful message of these ancient words and brings them to a modern audience - one with different minds and needs than the original audiences of Buddha more than 2,500 years ago.

In the past, science and meditation were considered poles apart, if not adversarial. In this talk, Osho shows science and meditation as complimentary, one the science of the outer, the other the science of the inner. For example he explains the esoteric science of rebirth using analogies of general science opening our minds to the possibilities of what is and what can be. Einstein meets Buddha in a love fest!

Moving beyond the usual interpretations of this classic Chinese text - that of using it as an indicator of what to do next or attempting to predict the future - Osho is using the Tao Te Ching as Lao Tzu intended: to ignite the flame of individual awareness and insight. His commentaries on these seven verses burn through every idea we may hold about ourselves until we can see with the same crystal-clear light as Lao Tzu.

Osho also answers questions, speaking on emotions and being detached from them, aloneness and love, imitation, children and religion, rebellion, living in a balanced way, sex, the generation gap, and much more.

These discourses contain what Osho describes as the most significant statements ever made, which point to the whole secret of the mystic approach toward life. And the sutra that begins this series of discourses, he says, contains the very essence of the entire Upanishadic vision - that the universe is an indivisible totality, an organic whole. Osho illuminates these ancient texts with such clarity that their significance seems stunningly obvious.

Story
Not believing, but only experiencing, says Osho in this inspiring series of talks, is a way of finding truth and meaning. While Nietzsche's declaration that "God is dead, therefore man is free" was an incredible step in understanding, he argues, it is in itself a negative solution and does not bring freedom. Simply removing God is not enough. Osho is no atheist by far and not in favor of any "anti-believe" system either. "It is meditation that fulfills your inner being and takes away the vacuum that used to be filled by a great lie, God."
Publisher's Summary
Osho, one of the best-known and most provocative spiritual teachers of our time, presents The Sutra of 42 Chapters - a scripture compiled in the first century CE by a Chinese emperor. Two thousand five hundred years have passed since Buddha delivered the sutras on which this series is based. Using modern idiom, Osho extracts the kernel of Buddha's profound insight and understanding and presents his everlasting message to the contemporary listener in a manner that is lucid, straightforward, and humorous.
Osho weaves his own unique insights into this profound ancient wisdom and expands its meaning for our time, discussing the need for doubt and argument in the spiritual search, the nature of desire, and the discipline of nonattachment. As we travel with the Buddha on a path of radical wisdom, we'll laugh or shake our heads at the folly, the ineptitude, or the goodness of the characters in the stories - and gain knowledge and understanding at the same time.
Osho engages us at every level to help us experience the Buddha's teachings and take in their timeless truths. A powerful, inspirational gem of a series of talks recorded in an outdoor auditorium with several thousand people in his audience.

Don't let the lenght of the book scare you in any way. It is a collection of lectures by Osho. Each chapter begins with a phrase from Buddha and Osho develops his thought around it. Daunting but thoroughly good
Anyone who downloads a 36-hour lecture series knows that they're getting into something hardcore. I guess there's no rule that you have to listen to the entirety of a "book" like this, but if you do listen to all of this, know that you're in for a marathon. A good marathon, though! Osho is gifted, and he has a bent to his lectures that can really appeal to Westerners. He bags on Western religion quite a bit, basically calling lots of it farcical, but everything is thoroughly grounded in Buddhism and everything ultimately ends up with a positive Buddhist spin (and not just a negative Christian one... although I certainly liked the dissection of Christianity). I've listened to hundreds of hours of Buddhist content and Osho without doubt delivers some of the very best lines and thoughts that I've ever heard. My one grievance is that there is not that much about meditation and the practice of meditation. Lots of great Buddhist stuff on Audible really dives deeeep into meditation, and Osho not so much, at least not here. But anyway, still a very good listen.
