Publisher's Summary
Heat up the holidays with this sizzling new novella from New York Times best-selling authors Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward!
Riley Kennedy’s emails keep getting crossed with her colleague, Kennedy Riley.
The infuriating man forwards them along with his annoying commentary and unsolicited advice. At least she never has to see him in person since they work in different locations…until they come face to face at the office holiday party. As luck would have it, Kennedy turns out to be gorgeous…though still a jerk. Yet somehow he’s able to charm her out on the dance floor - and convince her to participate in his crazy scheme: He’ll go home with Riley for a Christmas party and pretend to be her boyfriend if Riley agrees to be his date to a wedding.
It sounds easy enough. But little by little, the act they’re putting on starts to feel like so much more than a Christmas pact - and Riley’s about to learn there’s more to Kennedy than she ever imagined.

Cute hate to love
it was a nice read, a small book, can be finished in a sitting, but is like a cliche rom-com, there's no steamy scene, the ending was hilarious, didn't expect that. Narrators were good too.

A lot like The Hating Game
The story was very similar to the book The Hating Game by Sally Thorne. I don’t know which came out first. This is much shorter of course.

Nope
If you enjoy hearing sentences like "she blushed and I felt something twitch in my pants" then this is the book for you.
This isn't romantic. It's actually pretty creepy. They lost me at hello. Kudos to the woman narrator. She sounded intelligent and not creepy. The male narrator just made the creepy stuff creepier - and gross. Buh bye.

How to be a creep 101
As a guy I got this because it was free on the monthly originals and I do like a good story so I gave it a shot.... Words don't describe how creepy this gets. I really hope not all romance novels are this creepy, even the Hallmark movies are sappy but the guys seem like they genuinely care for the girl. This guy is manipulative from the beginning. Doesn't even know her, but the first time they meet he is already dropping sexual innuendos, then his inner monologue is all about her body and sex even though they've only really known each other for hours at this point. If this were a Hallmark romance he would be the big city guy that the girl leaves when she goes back to her small town to save the local Inn. Like the rest of the reviews the female voice talent was really good, but the male voice really added to Kennedy's sleaze.

Raunchy hot mess
This story started off good but then the male narrator came on and the story changed from being a cute little romance story to some raunchy hot mess. I don’t like it. Every time the man narrator came on there were swear words and vulgarity. When the man talks his character sounds like a pig and that is not sexy. This book was a free sample that I ended up not finishing and deleting. To me, it’s a no go.

Harassment isn't cute
I'm struggling to understand how this story got written and marketed as a romance in the Me Too era. I will admit, I didn't make it past the first 25 minutes, so maybe it gets better. But within that first 25 minutes the male characters harasses the female character, in a work setting, several times.
First he reads a private email of hers and comments that he asked around about her and heard she was attractive (this is from his WORK email account). Then at a WORK party she spills a drink on him and tries to wipe it up, and he makes a totally gross joke about how maybe he should spill his drink on her (so he can wipe at her chest, hilarious, right??). Shortly after that he physically coerces her into dancing after she declined, and that's basically when I was done. With all we've learned about workplace harassment in the last few years, I'm not sure why this is treated as meet-cute fodder. If anything it sounds like a pretty solid HR complaint.
The female characters also does a total 180 on hating the jerky male character after she sees a picture and realizes he's attractive. I haaaaate that kind of trope, jerks should not be given a pass on their gross behavior because they have "nearly translucent blue eyes" and a chiseled jaw. Barf.
Maybe I'm not the ideal audience for this story, but I do generally love a cheesy holiday romance. I just failed to find anything remotely romantic in this setup.

Nope
This premise sounds cute, but it gets creepy pretty quick. Even if you are willing to overlook just how quickly any company would stomp on someone reading their co-workers emails, much less commenting; it goes way too far as soon as he starts giving unsolicited and unwelcome comments on her appearance. That's what we call workplace sexual harassment. It is not cute. Add to that, that the female character is an immature and rude ditz and this one lost me within the first 20 minutes.
The narrator did her best, and there is nothing bad to say about her performance. This story is just not salvageable.

Disturbing
What I thought would be a cheesy hallmark Christmas movie type of story ended up being an awful tale about a creepy, sleazy misogynist coercing a female to become romantically and sexually involved with him. I have watched my fair share of bad love stories but I was genuinely disturbed by this one. The “hero” is creepy and manipulative. It’s stories like these that convince women trapped in abusive relationships that they are actually in a fairytale relationship. It is not okay to talk to, follow, or touch someone who says “no”. It is not okay to stalk someone. It is not okay to control them and manipulate them. It is quite literally illegal to read their private emails and then harass them about personal information found in those private emails. This is a bad story and that is all I will say about that. It’s time we wrote stories that involve kindness, respect, and reflections of ACTUAL love.
To be fair, the narration was great, despite the horrendous storyline they were given.

AWFUL.
I couldn't even finish this regressive drivel. Oh no, a single woman in her late 20s? What a tragedy! That means the office scoundrel, who violates her privacy, harasses her, and thinks of her as someone he can easily bed, must step in to save her, while gaslighting her simultaneously. Clearly this woman has no HR department to save her from a hostile work environment, and doesn't have the good sense to remove herself from abusive men. That really screams holiday cheer, doesn't it? Don't waste your time on this patronizing, regressive, and definitely not funny shit show of a story.

If you like Katherine Heigl romantic comedy movies, this is your book.
RomComs (romantics comedies) movies can be a fun escapism (guilty of enjoying them) but I haven’t read the book equivalent before. “The Christmas Pact” is the audiobook version of a RomCom. Katherine Heigl RomComs were the exact movie type that came to mind and she would be the perfect lead in this book if it became a movie.
The performances are great. They bring the characters inner dialogue to life in the right tones. They make the sometimes on purpose cringe worthy dialogue come to life. On top of that the inner monologues and switch of perspective is well done.
On to the writing...it was done well but it also was concerning. Don’t want to spoil the plot but there is 3 moments, as there commonly is in a RomCom movie, that in real life might be a horror story instead. My internal “GET OUT” yelling or “Really...!!??” was obviously done on purpose for building the plot and moving the story along but when they happened, it took me out of the story. A little more build to these moments or a slight change in how they could come about would make me think more awe and less killer/stocker/jerk/restraining order. And in a weird way I also saw the clear romantic fantasy of the moments too because in the story everyone is safe so those attributes are positive. A beauty and the beast type of fantasy...
Overall fun book I did enjoy even with the story cringe moments. Is a fun Xmas...New Years...RomCom audiobook.

Well narrated… who would have thought 2 people with the same name working for the same company (RK & KR) would eventually find love ….we can all dream that the love of our life would appear on a white horse & whisk us off our feet.

Fun & entertaining - some coarse language
This was a really fun story that I thoroughly enjoyed. It’s a pretty short tale but enjoyable and fun nonetheless. For me, the coarse language at times detracted from the overall enjoyment. Seemed unnecessary. With that caveat, I totally recommend this as a fab light & entertaining read.

It’s cute!
This is the perfect little palette cleanser I needed between darker romance books I’ve been into lately. It does exactly what you hope it does and gives you a cute little feel good couple of hours.
Excellent narration (even though Sebastian voice is wasted with zero spice).
Worth a listen while you are doing menial tasks
