This Penguin Classic is performed by Arinzé Kene, writer and performer of Olivier Award nominated Misty, and also known for his roles in Youngers, Informer and Eastenders. This definitive recording includes an Introduction by Gareth Stedman Jones.

The Communist Manifesto (1848), Marx and Engels's revolutionary summons to the working classes, is one of the most important and influential political theories ever formulated. After four years of collaboration the authors produced this incisive account of their idea of Communism, in which they envisage a society without classes, private property or a state. They argue that increasing exploitation of industrial workers will eventually lead to a revolution in which Capitalism is overthrown. This vision provided the theoretical basis of political systems in Russia, China, Cuba and Eastern Europe, affecting the lives of millions. The Communist Manifesto still remains a landmark text: a work that continues to influence and provoke debate on capitalism and class.

Best Edition on Audible

This edition of The Communist Manifesto is absolutely the best one available currently on audible. This is entirely because of the magnificent and uniquely edifying introduction, which is in fact longer than the manifesto itself. It provides some truly enlightening context and background not only to the book itself, but also to Marx's philosophy and the roots of socialist thought in general. Highly, highly recommended for understanding Marx and Engel's magnificent text and the roots of one of the most transformative and revolutionary movements in history.

introduction is excellent

The very thorough introduction makes up the bulk of this audiobook and consequently the actual Manifesto is better than it would have been on it's own. It gave a very good synopsis and historical context of the people involved and their perspectives of the times that they lived in. Future rebellions may not be Marxist per se, but they will borrow heavily from his ideas. Lots of good stuff in there, but must be viewed through the lens of how dangerous "Good intentions" can be in the hands of the insane. 5/5

best marx on audible, the future of audiobooks

PLEASE we need MORE penguin classic nonfiction books on audible!!

the introduction provided in this edition is fantastic. marxists and politically active socialists now finally have an authoritative resource on audible. great history and theory. high quality performance.

if only penguin classics would put their translation of (and introduction to) Marx's other works (i.e. Capital Vol 1, 2, 3). the current audiobooks from Ukemi rely on outdated public domain translations.

please expand the penguin audiobook library to include more works of philosophy, sociology and religion (specifically: Roots of Yoga, Buddhist Scriptures, Kant, Kierkegaard, Plato, Aristotle, Early Greek Philosophy, A Nietzsche Reader, Nietzsche's The Joyous Wisdom, Hindu Myths, The Life of the Buddha, The Roots of Ayurveda, The All-Pervading Melodious Drumbeat, The Analects, The Epic of Gilgamesh, Levi-Strauss's Tristes Tropiques)

this is really the future of audiobooks. meeting the interests of the general public and actual practitioners, and yet scholarly and contemporary enough to be used by university students and teachers.

Everyone should understand

Poor sound quality so it was difficult to hear. The Manifesto is a key document for each of us to read and understand in the formation and continued discussion of equality and roles of citizens. Whether a person agrees or not it ranks with wealth of nations in the formation of modern economy
