Publisher's Summary

A tyrant by day, a playboy by night. That's the reputation that precedes Richard VanRyan. He lives life the way he wants, no concern for the opinion of others. He cares for no one, is completely unrepentant, and has no desire to change his ways.

Katharine Elliott works under Richard as his PA. She despises him and his questionable ethics, but endures all the garbage he sends her way, because she needs the job. Her end goal is far more important than the daily abuse and demands she tolerates from her nasty tyrant of a boss. Until the day he asks her for something she never expected. A new role with a personal contract-fiancée instead of PA.

What happens when two people who loathe each other have to live together and act as though they are madly in love? Sparks. That's what happens.

Can the power of love really change a person?

Will they survive the contract?

What do you do when the one person you hate the most becomes the one person you can't live without?

The Arrogance

Well...I really enjoyed the plot to the story,I fully expected your typical "assistant/boss"office hook up,but had a different twist than your usual romance. For starters...The assistant was not your"usual"gorgeous, lusty looking assistant, according to her boss(a major a$$ hole,in my opinion)she was a plain, sexless scare crow.He treated her like total $h!t for a good portion of the story and she put up with it because her situation called for her needing her job.In the "hero's"arrogance,he didn't get his promotion so he devised a plan to fix his image with the help of his straight, laced assistant. They worked it out and of course ended up falling in love.A little hard to believe but it happened none the less.If this had some"reality"to it,I'd see a divorce in their future.I think his guilt over how he treated her made him settle and his personality will certainly rear it's ugly head soon,it's not likely to change after all the years of being such a d!ck.

ok storyline. no chemistry. bad narration.

ok storyline but there was no chemistry between characters and just not great writing it was very stilted and not natural how people would speak to each other etc. not a fan of the narration.

Typical HEA love story

I am always hesitant to write reviews for books that are what I consider "par for the course" romances. I just give my honest opinion of the read and I don't have blogs or web sites or anything of that nature. I am just me and I like to read and listen.

This story was interesting enough to finish. It was not a story I could not put down or kept me on the edge of my seat to see what would happen next. The publishers summary give a good synopsis of the book. What IS refreshing about the story line however, is the company that Richard goes to is an extremely close knit family oriented business. I think that was unique to the story. I also enjoyed how the people from said company helped the story along. The sub characters were interesting and I hope that she decides to publish their stories as well.

This is a story you can enjoy on a weekend, vacation or just to have something pleasant to listen to. If you have read my reviews before you know that I am a HUGE fan of Tatiana Sokolov. This story is atypical of what she usually narrates. She does a very good performance, but the male performer has more to read and his female voice took some getting used to.

I used a credit to purchase this because I was down on reading/listening material. I would recommend for a sale.

Real!!!

It's rare when I feel so emotional with a book these days, normally many romance novels are repetitive always about tragedy, but this book was real. And the author was able to express how one person can change and make a difference with unconditional love.

Disappointing choice of female narrator

The male narrator does a good job, but the female narrator seems like a poor casting choice for this particular story. She did a decent job, just not the right fit for the role.

Perfect story by great author

I absolutely loved every minute of it. The narrators did an amazing job and the author wrote a perfect story, the kind I love to read and I enjoyed everything about it. The characters and their stories a perfect compliment to the settings and plot line. Would certainly be reading or listening for any story written by Melanie Moreland.

A joy to listen to...

What a delicious story, well written and better yet read by these two great narrators!!!
So worth the time and credit. She seems so weak and lost at the beginning but she surprises us and teaches him how to be a better version of himself... super cool and sweet.

Loved the book, but loved the audio more!

I bought the book when it was first released as it was by one of my go-to authors (I've been a big fan of Melanie's for years) and wasn't disappointed.

So when I found out the audio version had been released I just HAD to get it and I loved it more than the book, John Lane & Tatiana Sokolov did a great job of bringing the book to life and I was emotionally invested (again) from the very start.

This is definitely an audiobook that I will listen to many more times.

Oh dear!!

The one thing that sticks out in this book, compared to others like it, is it's not centred around the sex side of the enemies-to-lovers story!!

As I'm sure most will know, who read similar books, they're usually all about the sex and go really in depth as to what happens in the bespoke and anywhere else they may come together.

Instead this book, this author, has delved into her main characters, and their relationship, tweaking out what they love to hate about each other, as individuals, and the effort they have to go through to pull this contract off. How they have to learn to pretend to like each other!!

But when it came to the narrators I felt let down!!

This is the first time I've come across both Tatiana Sokolov and John Lane and I wasn't particularly blown away by either of them!!

Tatiana several times said the wrong word and at one point called Katy, Kathy!! She's read and spoken the name Katy so many times up to this point, so where was her head at when she made this blunder??

Neither Tatiana or John had any range when it came to the different parts, except John making his voice softer with the female characters!! It just felt wrong!!

It's all very hard work from the get-go, but thankfully the story has you glued to the pages, right up until the very end.

There's also a lot of, for real, LOL moments all the way through, as well as pulling on the heart strings. So you have all been warned, get out the tissues and have them at the ready!!
So the all important question. Would I recommend this book......
Drum roll please......
But the book?? Absolutely! 😏😏 Get the audio, nope, nada, not at all!! I just wish I'd checked it out before buying the audio for the next book!!

Loved it!

Read this story a few years back and really fancied doing a re-read via audio. I still adore the story. My goodness but Richard VanRyan is so horrible and rude to begin with, but I loved his journey from tyrant to softie. I'd forgotten that a lot of the story was told from Richard's POV, which I loved. Really enjoyed John Lane's delivery and depiction of RVR. The female narrator is not one of my favourites but I enjoyed the story nonetheless.

enjoyable sweet story

This story was unexpectedly sweet and charming.
I loved how Richard slowly began to redeem himself after he realised how bad he'd been treating Katie at work.
Their relationship turned out to be quite charming.

it was alright

I've been spoilt with some great romcoms. 50 shades, the mister, beautiful disaster, crossfire series.... all were brilliant. this book wants to be up there with them, but doesn't quite get there. I think most of the reason (for me personally) was because of the 2 narrators. Both sounded too mature for their characters and a little too wooden?!

I enjoyed the story, although it was easily predictable. Richards character softened way too quick and by the end of the book, was just a pile of mush! katie however, was the kind of female character I quite liked. Unlike a lot of other female leads, Katie had a back bone, stood up for herself and didnt do that annoying thing where they tend to over analyse everything 'he' does and have an incessant need to know everything!
