About this listen

Whichever option I choose, men are going to die.

When the entire Soviet Union wheat crop is destroyed by a devastating string of failures, the population faces starvation. The USA is quick to offer assistance. They devise a plan to trade vital food resources with the Russians in exchange for sensitive political information. But the Politburo has other ideas: the invasion of Western Europe to commandeer the food for them...

As the paths of communication breakdown the president of the United States and leaders from around the world face an appalling choice: Should they allow the loss of thousands to save the lives of many more? This is the Devil's Alternative and in this incomparable and gripping thriller the Cold War giants must fight a battle to the death.

The story is a deep involved look at the Cold War, the intricacies of espionage and layered within is a love story unlike others. The twist at the end is brilliantly orchestrated.

The narration is amazingly done and one of the best I have heard. Highly recommended.

Deep storyline and brilliant performance

When it comes to Espionage nobody can beat Mr.Forsyth. From the halls of the White House to the domes of kremlin the master storyteller weaves a narrative through the canopy of the Cold War and it inspires awe even now, 4 decades after it was first published. For people interested in spy craft and Cold War history, this isn’t merely a novel but a history text book. Been a FF fan for 13 years now since I read the day of the jackal, every time and during every read he amazes me.
Special mention to the narrator David Rintoul for taking care even the subtle variation in dialects speaking English the way an American, a Russian and even an Ukrainian speaks.
“If spy craft is your trade then this is certainly a good investment “ listen on....

A tale in a perfect way it should be told!
