Publisher's Summary

It’s a case of hidden identities for brother detectives Frank and Joe in the in the 19th book in the thrilling Hardy Boys Adventures series.

The Hardy brothers and Frank’s new girlfriend, Jones, are attending a local comic book convention on the shore. They meet up with Jones’s friend Harper, a fellow comics super fan, on the boardwalk outside the convention. The four of them spend hours running from booth to booth and end the perfect day with pizza at Harper’s short-term rental apartment.

Things don’t stay so perfect, though. On the way home, Jones realizes she switched phones with Harper by accident and she is getting some really scary texts. When they show up at the apartment the next day, they find it totally destroyed, and Harper is missing.

Frank and Joe start digging into their new friend’s life, hoping to find out where she might have gone, but the more they find out about her, the more mysterious she becomes. Can Frank and Joe find this secretive character? Or has she disappeared forever?

Finished well but a painful road to get there

Let me start by saying that my son and I have listened to every book in this series and, while some are better than others, we’ve both enjoyed all of them. This one, however, we nearly turned off. The writing was good, the narrating was good, but the story line was just awful for what seemed like the first half of the book. I won’t go into detail to avoid spoiling it but I think at least an hour of the book was dedicated to returning someone’s cell phone! I appreciate detail in story writing and the details in scene descriptions and emotions were great as usual (adjusted for the age of the audience, of course) but the detail of the process/hurdles involved in getting a cell phone back to the owner was borderline unbearable. I really think the author was unimaginative and phoned it in (Pun intended) on this one at least as it relates to time spent on captivating subject matter. I really hope it was a speed bump and not a sign of things to come in the series.

Good

Not one of the best Hardy Boys books I've listened to, it was okay, pretty good story, but not as good as I was expecting after a lot of the other ones. A solid 4.5 star....

Not the best in the “Hardy Boys Adventures” series but I still loved this book

The narrator is great and I really like the characters. I would definitely recommend this book.

Not a Hardy Boys Story

Not really any story at all. Adding a character to join the boys as a detective is weak. The climax at the end included characters only shown once with no development. I have all of the books, this is the last one i will be getting.
