Brought to you by Penguin.

The electrifying follow-up to Dave Eggers' New York Times best seller The Circle.

When the world's largest search engine/social media company merges with the planet's dominant e-commerce site, it creates the richest and most dangerous - and, oddly enough, most beloved - monopoly ever known: The Every.

Delaney Wells is an unlikely new hire. A former forest ranger and unwavering tech skeptic, she charms her way into an entry-level job with one goal in mind: to take down the company from within. With her compatriot, the not-at-all-ambitious Wes Kavakian, they look for the company's weaknesses, hoping to free humanity from all-encompassing surveillance and the emoji-driven infantilisation of the species. But does anyone want what Delaney is fighting to save? Does humanity truly want to be free?

Studded with unforgettable characters and lacerating set pieces, The Every blends satire and terror while keeping the listener in breathless suspense about the fate of the company - and the human animal.

Great but female voices weird

The story is great and the narrator has a great voice and reading style, but for some reason gave all the female characters a strange simpering voice which was quite hard to listen to.

Wow - fantastic.

Brilliant - funny, scary, everything. Even better than The Circle (which is also excellent, and you should read first BTW!).

Great reading, too!

Terrifying

The most terrifying thing about this book is not that it all makes so much sense and is utterly believable, but in the moments when you find yourself agreeing with some of the ideas here, and thinking - actually, that does make sense!! It’s gripping and leaves you in a state of confusion as to where you stand, and it made me laugh, though the laughing hurt!

Dystopian and too Close to Home

This offering by Dave Eggers is as sinister as The Circle was. In light of the present human made chaos on earth, this book is like a stab to to bleed us out. It's frightening and quite shocking that some people feel that they know what others want. I was chargrined to be honest. Dion Graham's narration made it palatable. I fell that it is dystopian and too close to home.

Worth reading. The more you think about it. Worth talking about.

No spoilers.

I already listened to the German audiobook >4 weeks ago. It was released in Germany before it was released in an original English version. Crazy, I know…

The Tom Hanks movie “Circle” really sucked…
The sequel has to be done as a series because it has so many details you aren’t able to tell in one 90min movie.

I really love the premise of the duology with all its details and especially because of asking myself is everything at Circle/ Every bad… bad at all….

Listen to it. Or read it. Read it with your pupils/ students. Talk about it.

And ‘no’ I was’t paid for this.

Scary premise

Having read THE CIRCLE, which I loved, I pre-ordered THE EVERY. This novel was scary in that the potential it occurring in real life is possible. It was well written and thought provoking. Every good idea had positives but even more negatives. Human nature to exploit, combined with lack of privacy is a disastrous mix. It led to a premise where the very act of thinking became scary. That one thought or innocent look could destroy your life.

This book took longer to read, as it was written in a style that found me having to stop and think more. Some aspects of THE EVERY was not written on an interesting way. The audiobook helped here as the narrator was very engaging. The plot twist at the end is well worth the read.

Dave Eggers states that this book would not be available on AMAZON, however this is not truthful. The ebook is available on AMAZON and the audiobook is available on AUDIBLE, an AMAZON subsidiary. If he really stood by his views about AMAZON they wouldn't be available through here.
