Really love Gillians books and this one was just as great
Gillian has the best writing style, I love the way she describes emotions and relations.
The complex emotions of a daughter of a convicted murderer - the murderer of her mother no less - is so well written with all the twists and turns and heartbreaks.
And the unraveling of the murder is really captivating and keeps the reader on the edge of the chair all through the book!

Narrator spoiled story and enjoyment
I was very disappointed by the performance and narration of this book.
The synopsis seemed very interesting and just the type of book I enjoy. I could also tell that the author had written the book with expertise.
However, the droning voice and pessimistic tone of the narrator totally put me off. I tried four times to listen to this book but each time could only hear four or so chapters before her voice grated so much I had to turn it off.
I really wish I could read this book but unfortunately I am blind. If only it had another narrator! Any chance of this happening?
I think publishers should be more careful in their choice of book performers

Absolutely brilliant!
Another fantastic book from Gillian McAllister. Listened to it in two days and every word had me gripped. The characters were so believable and I could relate to so much of the story line. Some parts had me smiling and some brought a tear to my eyes. Zoe did an amazing job with the narration and really brought the story to life. I will be looking for more books she's narrated. . Gillian, please keep on writing :-)

Irritating narrator
I have tried to persevere with this book, but find the hushed voice of the narrator unbelievably irritating.

Narration really put me off
I tried to listen to this book several times. But the narrator is so so quiet she's whispering. It meant I spent more time concentrating on understanding the words, rather than relaxing into the story. I like to listen to books in the car, or when I'm cooking, in both instances the need to concentrate because she was whispering made it an unnatural experience. Couldn't finish, which is a shame.

No tension build up but nice story.
The story is solid and it works but I didn't feel myself hanging on to their every word waiting for them to solve this mystery, the reveals fell flat and even when she's learning new things it didn't set my mind racing trying to fit all the facts together.
The main characters are well thought out but all else fell away.
The narrator manages to whisper for 14 hours straight so kudos to them. Not sure it added much to the overall story telling but it did mean I had to concentrate even more just to stay with the story.
Overall its average at best.

Dull!
Dull woman’s feckless shop-a-holic mother was murdered when the woman was just 17-years-old. Her artistic waster Father is serving a prison sentence for her murder. Did he do it? Nearly half way into the 14 hour length of this book at chapter 22, I just don’t care. I haven’t found any character that I can invest in. I gave the story 2* only because the quality of the writing itself is good. Very disappointing.

Snooze fest
Absolutely and completely boring. Stretched out nonsense. Kept sticking with it in the hope that it would improve… it didn’t. Nothing happens! Absolutely full of over described soliloquies, hundreds of them. Not one likeable character in the whole book factual inaccuracies and I spent the last third of it skipping forward through large chunks of it. Dull, dull dull. And then there was the narration, oh my! Who the heck employed this woman and why did she spend the whole book whispering. A travesty of a book and a total waste of a credit. Do not recommend.

Couldn’t get past the narration
I wanted to give this book a chance but I got annoyed with the narration. Listening when outside with headphones, I couldn’t hear some of the words she was saying and had to keep skipping back. Gave up in the end and returned the book. I wish Audible would give us a longer sample of books before purchasing.

Warning
Story line mediocre but there should be a warning not to listen to it when driving the narrator whilst having a nice voice for a hypnotist not ok for narrating a book. She narrates too softly making everything sound dreamy and almost whispering. She had good accents but made me want to nod off.

Terrible narration
Why did the narrator sound like she was whispering? So flat and quiet I gave up, which is a shame as I think the story would have been good

Simply a brilliant book, I loved it from beginning to, well a different ending from that I had expected.
