About this listen

Bagpuss, dear Bagpuss, old fat furry cat-puss, wake up, wake up and look at this thing that I bring...

Bagpuss, created by Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin, is no ordinary cat. Bagpuss, the sleepy old cloth cat, lives in a shop owned by Emily, where lost and broken things are brought to be "mended" or given new stories. When Emily brings an object to Bagpuss, he and his friends wake up, ready to discover its secrets. Professor Yaffle shares his wisdom, Madeleine sings, Gabriel plays his banjo, and the mice add their fun ideas. Together, they make the shop a place where forgotten things come to life in the most magical way.

Emily brings a small figure of a giant to the shop. Bagpuss and his friends are eager to learn about the giant's story. Professor Yaffle explains the history of giants in folklore, while Madeleine and Gabriel sing about a giant who isn't as scary as he looks. The mice, ever playful, add their own fun twist to the story. We are reminded not to judge others by their appearance, with a mix of music, fun, and Bagpuss's signature magic.
