Since its release in 1949, The Hero with a Thousand Faces has influenced millions of readers by combining the insights of modern psychology with Joseph Campbell's revolutionary understanding of comparative mythology. In this book, Campbell outlines the Hero's Journey, a universal motif of adventure and transformation that runs through virtually all of the world's mythic traditions. He also explores the Cosmogonic Cycle, the mythic pattern of world creation and destruction.

As relevant today as when it was first published, The Hero with a Thousand Faces continues to find new audiences in fields ranging from religion and anthropology to literature and film studies. The book has also profoundly influenced creative artists - including authors, songwriters, game designers, and filmmakers - and continues to inspire all those interested in the inherent human need to tell stories.

Critic Reviews

"Arthur Morey, John Lee, and Susan Denaker are an adept and experienced performance team. The way they trade voices adds texture to the complex compendium of stories." ( AudioFile)

First heard of The Hero With A 1000 Faces in Netflix's show 'Myths and Monsters'. Since then, I have wanted to read this book, and acquiring it as an audiobook was most rewarding. This is the most exhaustive, unbiased and unprejudiced work of comparative mythology that I have ever come across. And it is much more fun to experience as an audiobook than as a written novel.

It's a great and complex work where Joseph Campbell tries to prove his idea about the Monomyth. In order to try to prove his point, he refers to many mythologies from all over the world. However, it's clear that some of the mythologies are indeed similar to each other but not really all of them.

once you get the framework of hero story that is presented and associate with the myths that you knew earlier, you can see how the all the myths evolved in a very similar ways. the language could have been a bit simplified for making it easier to follow
