Publisher's Summary
A spellbinding exploration of the human capacity to imagine the future
Our ability to think about the future is one of the most powerful tools at our disposal. In The Invention of Tomorrow, cognitive scientists Thomas Suddendorf, Jonathan Redshaw, and Adam Bulley argue that its emergence transformed humans from unremarkable primates to creatures that hold the destiny of the planet in their hands.
Drawing on their own cutting-edge research, the authors break down the science of foresight, showing us where it comes from, how it works, and how it made our world. Journeying through biology, psychology, history, and culture, they show that thinking ahead is at the heart of human nature—even if we often get it terribly wrong. Incisive and expansive, The Invention of Tomorrow offers a fresh perspective on the human tale that shows how our species clawed its way to control the future.

Underwhelming and Repetitive
Felt like a weak rehash of topics that were already covered by Jared Diamond and Noah Yuval Harari on their books

Absolutely superb listen!
I heard one of the authors of this book (Adam Bulley) being interviewed by Sean Carroll on his ‘Mindscape podcast and I was seriously impressed by his clarity of thought and knowledge. So I downloaded this book…and I am glad I did. Extremely informative and interesting ideas about how “the future” plays/has played a role in human evolution. There are lots of new and fresh ideas (and I listen to and read a lot in this genre) and it has that sweet spot between fact and illustrative stories. I got a bit smarter listening to this.
And than narrator….FIRST CLASS! The best I’ve heard in the non fiction genre. He spoke it as if he had written it. He also uses different accents when making quotations…brilliant and sometimes amusing! I wonder what you will think about me, in the future, when you read this review?

Popular science done well
Interesting content and the narrator Philip Battley does a great job portraying the authors' sense of humour.
Engaging scientific content punctuated by frequent glimpses into human history (and prehistory!) The Invention of Tomorrow is well worth picking up.
