About this listen

The author, a former Special Secretary of India's external intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) of the Cabinet Secretariat, examines a series of interconnected events that led to the rise of the Khalistan movement, Operation Blue Star, the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1984 and the anti-Sikh violence unleashed thereafter. With a timeline that moves from seven years before to a decade after 1984, the book strives to answer critical questions that continue to linger till today.

The narrative moves from Punjab to Canada, the US, Europe and Delhi, looking to sift the truth from political obfuscation and opportunism, examining the role that the ruling party allegedly played, and the heart-rending violence that devoured thousands of innocent lives in its aftermath.

This book is just fabulous. While going through, many unknown truths have come to light. The politicians have an extremely narrow view and get carried away by following the ill trained and self serving advisors. India needs many Chanakyas to put her house in order. Mr. Sidhu, the author is one - why not seek help from experts. Excellent book.

The book sheds light on many significant incidents from the past, while simultaneously raising numerous questions about power, politics, and society. The listeners will find themselves pondering not only the specifics of historical episodes but also who will provide answers to these pressing mysteries. The narrative voices concern about the use of societal elements as pawns in the larger game of political power—a game present in both developed and developing nations.
Sidhu’s writing does not offer facile solutions; instead, it generates disquiet and forces listeners to confront uncomfortable truths about political authority and personality-driven governance. It asks when this manipulation will cease, and who will take responsibility for bringing about genuine societal change.
A striking question posed by the book is when higher ideals like “Ekatma Manav Darshan”—a philosophy unique to Earth—will be truly realized in everyday life.
In conclusion, the Sidhu’s book visually and thematically matches the book’s core themes: disturbance, inquiry, and social introspection, urging listeners to reflect deeply and seek answers to questions that matter.
