The best one so far

No spoiler, but there's one thing about this book that I've never read the likes of in any other work of fiction. Osman's portrayal of that person and the process they go through is simply astounding. The story is great, the narrator excellent, but that thing alone was worth the read.

The Thursday Murder Club has done it again!

Richard Osman has such a wonderful way of writing his very believable characters. I can’t say any more without giving any spoilers, but I laughed and I cried and enjoyed every thought provoking word of this well written and read book.

Love the sinners and devils alike

Mr Osman had me gripped again with the twists and turns and even when I try to anticipate the who-dunnit, I am wrong! Love being out danced and captivated by this wonderful group of pensioners. Love the philosophy, the heart and the awareness of the fragility of life.

The best in the series

A retiree myself, I have found the Thursday Murder Club books satisfying and rewarding. I eagerly await each new one and have not been disappointed. This one however has a depth and poignancy I wasn’t expecting but thoroughly appreciated. I never cry when I watch a movie or read a book but I did listening to this one. Both the writing and the performance were magnificent.

Sadly Fiona Shaw can’t do accents

Of course it’s another good story and Richard Osman has a gift for witty dialogue with a twist. But the narration by Fiona Shaw made it hard to tell who was speaking - Mervin’s Welsh accent sounds Asian. The Scouse accent was …. not sure but not Scouse. Very odd. Please bring back Lesley Manville!
It ruining the listening somewhat.

Narration let's it down.

I've been looking forward to listening to this book hoping for the return of Lesley Manvilles narration...sorry to say its not happened.
Unfortunately I'm 2 chapters in and the pronunciation of the Welsh and Liverpool accents is so poor it detracts from the story.
For me and audible the narration can make or break a story and this makes me want to switch off and read it instead.
Have to admit that the narration of Joyce had improved since the last novel.
One way or another I will finish the book but perhaps not on audible.

The story is fantastic, but the narration is questionable

Amazing story- does not disappoint.

I love Fiona Shaw and when she’s not doing accents, the narration is perfect. Her Scouse and welsh accents are totally random though- why did no one tell her?

Lesley Manville

The story is great so far but just like Agatha Raisin has to be read by Penelope Keith. The voice of Joyce doesn't sound right without Lesley Manville.

Sheer pleasure

I have so enjoyed this series of books, read the first two and listened to three and four, such a wonderful idea of a murder club started by elderly people, I now want to move into a retirement home and start a murder solving club. I think Richard’s characters are really entertaining, have laughed, cried had fun and I’m very sad it will be a long wait until the next book, thank you Richard Osman

I don’t want to be this person but - the narrator 😞

I had to slow Fiona’s narration down to 0.9 in book three as at times it was a fast gabble and difficult to decipher. I had to slow it down further for this book. Sometimes it is hard to work out who said what as regular characters voices blur together and some characters accents are very hard to decipher. I had to listen to the Liverpudlian accent three times before I could make out what he was saying which would’ve been funny if it wasnt so frustrating. I am a big fan of Fiona as an actress but I’m not keen on her as a narrator

Much better narration this time

Fiona Shaw's narration is so much better in this book and accompanies a fantastic story. Tears and humour. Now to wait 2 years until the next one :-(

Thought I would get used to Fiona Shaw narrating by the second book she read, but not for me.

Why does Joyce speak in such a whispery voice? It’s just annoying. I didn’t pick up on the accents that others have mentioned but I find the narration confusing and dull. I kept realising that I’d stopped listening and had to keep going back.

The story itself had some wonderful parts that felt very true and other parts felt less cared for and a bit rushed. Whilst a good story, I preferred some of the other books in the series.

Disappointing

The whispering drove me insane as did the inability to do a Liverpool accent ! Audio books are supposed to be easy to listen to but I struggled with this performance. The story was forced and in my opinion a vanity project that put the events second in line to the wearisome revelations about the characters.

Captivating Masterpiece

I just finished listening to "The Last Devil to Die" by Richard Osman, brilliantly narrated by Fiona Shaw, and I am awestruck. This audiobook is a true gem, deserving of a perfect 10/10 rating.

From the very first chapter, Osman's storytelling prowess drew me in, weaving a narrative that is both gripping and thought-provoking. The plot is a rollercoaster of suspense, mystery, and emotion, keeping me on the edge of my seat.

Fiona Shaw's narration is a revelation. Her voice is a perfect match for the material, and she effortlessly brings the characters to life with distinct voices and a depth of emotion that is truly remarkable. It's as if the characters themselves are speaking directly to the listener.

What sets "The Last Devil to Die" apart is its ability to seamlessly blend thrilling action with moments of deep reflection and heartwarming connections between characters. Osman's writing is entertaining and thoughtfully explores themes of redemption, sacrifice, and the enduring power of the human spirit.

But what truly touched me was how Osman and Shaw portrayed dementia in the story. It was the most heartbreaking, beautiful thing I had ever read/listened to. The sensitivity and authenticity with which they depicted this challenging condition added a layer of depth and poignancy to the narrative that left me deeply moved.

I found myself utterly engrossed, eagerly anticipating each twist and revelation. This audiobook had me laughing, gasping, and even shed a tear. It's a testament to Osman's storytelling and Shaw's narration that they created an experience that will stay with me long after the final chapter.

"The Last Devil to Die" is a mesmerising audiobook that delivers on every front. Richards's storytelling and Fiona's narration are a match made in heaven. If you're looking for a gripping tale that will touch your heart and keep you hooked from start to finish, don't miss this extraordinary audiobook. It's a must-listen, and I wholeheartedly give it a perfect 10/10!

Warning - Do not read this while driving

The best in the series yet. The characters continue to develop making us laugh and cry. While reading this book you must have a box of tissues and a stiff drink. Cannot wait for the next one.

Too much grieving, not enough killing.

It seems this author has a boat to row about assisted suicide. I don't disagree but, an hour of the narrative is too much.
