Story
Once, I would never have imagined myself here. But I’m settled now. In a place I love, in a home I renovated, spending time with new friends I adore, and working a job that fulfills me. I am reconciling the past and laying the groundwork for the future. Then Garrett Frost moves in next door. He’s obstinate and too bold, a raging force of nature that disrupts the careful order of my life. I recognize the ghosts that haunt him, the torment driving him.
Publisher's Summary
The thrilling new romance from E. L. James, author of the phenomenal number one best-selling Fifty Shades trilogy.
London, 2019. Life has been easy for Maxim Trevelyan. With his good looks, aristocratic connections and money, he’s never had to work, and he’s rarely slept alone. But all that changes when tragedy strikes and Maxim inherits his family’s noble title, wealth, and estates, and all the responsibility that entails. It’s a role he’s not prepared for and one that he struggles to face.
But his biggest challenge is fighting his desire for an unexpected, enigmatic young woman who’s recently arrived in England, possessing little more than a dangerous and troublesome past. Reticent, beautiful and musically gifted, she’s an alluring mystery, and Maxim’s longing for her deepens into a passion that he’s never experienced and dares not name. Just who is Alessia Demachi? Can Maxim protect her from the malevolence that threatens her? And what will she do when she learns that he’s been hiding secrets of his own?
From the heart of London through wild, rural Cornwall to the bleak, forbidding beauty of the Balkans, The Mister is a roller-coaster ride of danger and desire that leaves the listener breathless to the very end.

I loved the accents and music
This is the story of a young woman who lived in Albania with a family that has very traditional beliefs - women are suppressed and men rule. Alessia has been betrothed to man that she thought would be her happy ever after one day but he has an ugly side to him, one that she is in fear of. The only way to get out of the upcoming marriage is to leave Albania. However, things go horribly wrong for her and she ends up in a fight for survival before she eventually makes it to a safe haven in London. Maxim Trevelyan had a privileged and wealthy upbringing. He hasn’t really had to work for anything. However, he is now mourning the loss of his brother Kit. Maxim will now inherit the title of his late brother plus all of the wealth that goes along with it. The weight of what is now expected of him is weighing him down and also a few silly decisions. Maxim has always been a bit of player and never has trouble finding a willing bed partner. This all changes when he lays eyes on Alessia. Alessia has recently started a new cleaning job for the wealthy Mr Maxim Trevelyan and her favourite part of the job is occasionally playing on his piano when he is not home. She has been playing the piano since she was a young child and it’s one of the things she misses from her life in Albania. When Maxim discovers Alessia playing, he is completely in awe and spellbound by her incredible musical talent. Her breathtaking beauty also captures his attention but se is reluctant to even look him in the eye. Alessia is convinced that she will be fired and has no idea what she will do without this job. She is shocked when Maxim encourages her to play as often as she likes and seems to want to engage in conversation with her. When danger comes looking for her, Maxim steps up like a knight in shining armour and makes her feel safe and protected. She has met a man like him and after years of being conditioned to submit to men, his kindness is a bit unnerving. Maxim is struggling with the feelings he is now experiencing every time he is with Alessia, her naivety and innocence holds him back from pushing for anything more. However, Alessia is giving him all the signals that she is feeling the same way too. Has Maxim finally found the woman he wants to gives his heart to? Although this is a romance story, there is an element of suspense weaved into it too. Alessia learns that you really can’t outrun your past and Maxim learns that secrets will always find their way to the surface, no matter how hard he tries to bury them. Overall I really enjoyed this story. I listened to the audio version and I loved how the accents and music gave me even more depth to the story being told.

Average
Alessia, running from the horrors of her past, works as a housekeeper for the playboy Maxim. He falls for her and realises too late she has some dangerous people after her. This was an ok love story. It was sweet and predictable but nothing mind blowing. I liked that there were separate male and female narrators for the two main character perspectives.

Enjoyable read - I still have unanswered questions
I loved how this book was narrated, particularly the male voice. I enjoyed the fact that they read their own parts throughout the book instead of mimicking the opposite sex's voice. I loved the first part of the book but I felt like the story died down in the middle and I was waiting for things to happen, parts of the book were predictable but overall I enjoyed this story. I still have unanswered questions and I would like to now how things turned out when they returned to England.

Terrible book gave up at chapter 16
This book was so boring, there was no story to it at all, the same thing is repeated over and over again. The writing was also terrible. I was trying to give it a chance but by chapter 16 I was so over it, nothing was happening, it was so slow which is probably due to the repetiveness. Don't waste your money or time

Great Job!!!
Though it started a bit slow as the story progressed I enjoyed it and I listened to it non stop. I love that this is different with Fifty Shades of Grey, I was not waiting for the erotic scenes but the story on what will happen next and the suspense that I felt while listening to it. The narrators are TWO THUMBS UP. You made the book even better. Kudos to Dominic Thorburn, Jessica O'Hara-Baker.
