Story
Today, most doctors, dietitians, and even diabetes specialists consider type 2 diabetes to be a chronic and progressive disease - a life sentence with no possibility of parole. But the truth, as Dr. Fung reveals in this paradigm-shifting book, is that type 2 diabetes is reversible. Writing with clear, persuasive language, he explains why conventional treatments that rely on insulin or other blood-glucose-lowering drugs can actually exacerbate the problem, leading to significant weight gain and even heart disease.

Story
Leading health blogger Jimmy Moore and researcher and internist Dr. Eric C. Westman join forces again to explain the powerful therapeutic effects of a ketogenic diet—one that combines a customized carbohydrate restriction, moderation of protein intake, and real food-based fats—which is emerging in the scientific literature as a means for improving a wide range of diseases, from Type 2 diabetes to Alzheimer's and more. Simply eating a low-carb diet alone isn't enough, and Moore and Westman tell you why. Have you looked at a low-carb diet simply as a means to lose weight? What if you learned that combining a low-carb nutritional approach with a high fat intake produces a powerful therapeutic effect on a wide variety of health conditions that most people think requires medication to control? That’s what Keto Clarity is all about. Jimmy Moore, a leading low-carb diet blogger and podcaster, has reunited with his Cholesterol Clarity co-author Dr. Eric C. Westman, a practicing internist and low-carb diet researcher, to bring you the crystal-clear information you need to understand what a ketogenic diet is and why it may be the missing element in your pursuit of optimal health. This book includes exclusive interviews from twenty of the world's foremost authorities from various fields bringing their depth of expertise and experience using this nutritional approach. Moore and Westman explain why ketosis is normal and how this nutritional approach is being used therapeutically by many medical professionals. You will find a step-by-step guide to help you produce more ketones and track your progress, real life success stories, and more. The solid evidence for nutritional ketosis in dealing with many of the chronic health problems of our day is presented, including but not limited to: epilepsy, Type 2 diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, polycystic ovarian syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome.

Publisher's Summary
We are in the midst of an obesity epidemic, but despite being inundated with diet advice we are only getting fatter. We count calories and exercise regularly, yet still the pounds won't budge. Why?
In this highly enjoyable and provocative book, Dr Jason Fung sets out a groundbreaking new theory: that obesity is caused by our hormones rather than a lack of self-control.
He reveals that overproduction of insulin in the body is the root cause of obesity and obesity-related illnesses including type 2 diabetes and offers robust scientific evidence that reversing insulin resistance is the only way to lose weight in the long term.
It turns out that when we eat is just as important as what we eat, so in addition to his five basic steps - a set of lifelong eating habits that will improve your health and control your insulin levels - Dr Fung explains how to use intermittent fasting to break the cycle of insulin resistance and reach a healthy weight - for good.

The best book on obesity ever. Clear and concise and scientific. Makes so much sense. I think the insulin story is the best part. Only trouble is that 70% of insulin secretion is genetically determined and only 30% is under our control :-( Would be nice to be able to access the forward by Tim Noakes and the tables on fasting which are inaccessible on the audio book.

Too much problem, too little solution...
A whopping 90% of this book is dedicated to proving history wrong. Jason May be correct in his analysis, but for someone who has spent his adult life looking for practical advice (that works) I found myself frustrated. This book I think is aimed at doctors who see an epidemic of obesity and want some evidence to argue with colleagues on what the best approach to fixing it is. For the ‘man in the street ‘ struggling with obesity he advice in the last 2 chapters boils down to: 1. Reduce added sugar 2. Make sure any carbs you consume are from ‘whole foods’ 3. Implement a 24 or 36 hour fasting regime Most of the practical steps outlined here are to be found in better forms on the internet. Leave the other 90% of the book to the doctors and scientists...

Superb and a Game Changer.
I cannot recommend this book highly enough. The detail and the in depth explanations of physiolog and aetiology of obesity is second to none in my opinion. The delivery of information is set out in such a way that you cannot fail to understand the implications.
An extremely methodical written book. Repeats itself just enough to get the point to hit home. I listened at the slowest setting to absorb it more readily.
I have total Faith that Dr Fung has done his research and constantly refers to academic papers and critically analyses them in a manner that I would do myself. This gives me the confidence to trust his opinions without me having to spend the time trawling the internet looking for others opinions. I still do that but after reading the book I already know the answers.
It really is exceptional and would recommend to anyone not just to people trying to lose weight or cure their diabetes.
The narrator is also absolutely superb. This is how I would imagine Dr Fung reading it himself but possible better as it is minus the "right" after nearly every sentence. Just a small critique after Listening to lots of Dr Fung podcasts and YouTube postings.
All round 5 stars and intend on listening to this repeatedly until the belly fat has gone!!

Finally someone who knows what he’s talking about, instead of trying to sell me something. Also very well read.

HARDLY EVER LEAVE REVIEWS, BUT HAD TO FOR THIS
If your diets have worked, plateaued, then failed and you've gone back to your original weight (or heavier) read this! I was always thin in my youth (a size 8, 7-stone teenager). Then, as the decades passed, I got heavier and heavier. In my twenties: 8 stone. Thirties: 9 stone. Forties: 10 stone. Then, approaching fifty, I got on the scales to find myself at 11 stone. That may not sound that heavy but I never got used to the rolls of fat around my stomach, how much harder it was to exercise, how much more cellulite I had. In general, I didn't feel good. And if I kept going, by 90 I was going to be 15 stone and probably dead!! :) Throughout my thirties and forties, I have tried EVERY diet there is: Weight Watchers, The Cabbage Soup Diet, The Ketogenic Diet, The Atkins Diet, The Juice Diet. I've run for an hour followed by an hour's swim three times a week. I've tried Paul McKenna's I can make you thin hypnosis. Even some crazy guy's advice to pretend you're running from a tiger before you go to sleep at night!!! You name it. I've done it. On each diet, I'd lose 3-7 lbs, plateau, and then put it all back on again, adding another 14 pounds every decade. I thought I was doing something wrong. I'd feel myself slipping on these diets that weren't maintainable in the long term, and blame myself. Then I found this book and everything fell into place. I read this a month ago and gradually built up my fasting regime: 12 hours, then 24, then 36. This week, I've gone 4 days without any problems at all. I make the broth, I take vitamins, I drink lots of water and tea. But I break the rules a bit too. I drink a lot of milky coffee (instead of coffee with cream which makes me retch after drinking that too often on the keto diet) and I still treat myself to a low alcohol beer or two at night. And even without following the rules to the letter, I've lost 14lbs in a month. Finally, my weight has taken a turn. Just buy this book! Best thing I ever did! Best book I've ever bought. Thank you, Jason Fung.

Can be a bit scientific, but overall a good listen
Jason has some great observations about our eating habits and how they get bad. Ultimately he recommends fasting, having tried it I have to say he is correct - but trust what your body tells you.

Superb content, excellent narration
This book is brilliant, it offers all the scientific backup and research studies that you would expect if you’re asked to buy into a certain view and is described in an easy to understand format. I’m a Personal Trainer and it has helped to reinforce my understanding of how the body processes food. It gives a well rounded holistic view and I can’t recommend it highly enough!

It makes good sense
This book is a literature review on the science of dieting and basically it concludes that sugar is really bad for you; that high insulin levels cause you to become fat and are somehow involved in deciding your 'set weight' ; and that fasting between meals, skipping meals, and extended fasting resets your set weight and lowers your insulin. After reading it I was much more selective in my food shopping and I was shocked how much sugar is in everything. It is difficult for people to maintain a healthy weight when 80% of supermarket food is unhealthy and will make you fat. I am skipping breakfast and I've reduced sugar by avoiding processed foods including bread and so far I've lost 8 lbs.

Not a great listen but potentially life changing
I really didn't enjoy listening to this book - it was delivered well but the text was repetitive and rambling with some annoying metaphors. I didn't find the author convincing but as it progressed I became more accepting of his argument. I really wanted it to get to the point for every chapter. Nonetheless, it does present a compelling case for radically decreasing sugar and how to reset one's hormonal - insulin thermostat. If you can hang in there until the last couple of chapters it is worth the wait. You could go straight to the "solution" but you will miss understanding the reasoning and hence may make some errors when implementing the suggestions. I will be trying this out and see how it goes for permanent weight loss. It could be the best weight loss solution thus far.... though that has been said many times before about diets, as the book itself acknowledges, so proceed with caution - albeit with some confidence that this could be the one!!

Makes perfect sense!
Don't be put off by the title, I am not overweight but just have an interest in nutrition, health and wellbeing. Heavy or thin, everybody should read this! This book is enlightening, it just makes so much sense! It is clearly explained and easy to understand the 'mechanics' of how our bodies work. The narrator took me a few minutes to get used to, but now I could not imagine another voice presenting it, he is entertaining and expressive. Some of the messages are repeated over and over, but there's a reason for that - they are all things that people probably already know, but obviously ignore/forget. It explains why our forebears all ate more fat and carbs then we "think" or "are told" we should, yet they did not get fat! If I had been battling weight gain for years, I think I would cry tears of joy for the information offered in this book! The statistics are interesting and well presented. Save yourself from more years of failing dieting, read this book!!! Highly recommended for ALL ages.

Great scientific analysis
Really liked the thorough analysis this book goes through - most books about obesity have 1 chapter background then 20 on why they have the magic solution. This is 20 chapters of explanation of the challenges of obesity and a short guide to how to implement simple changes to fight this disease.

This book has changed my life!
I have dieted my whole life, and have slowly become bigger and bigger. Every chapter of this book had me amazed, it is so simple, yet the diet/food/health industry and the higher authorities are adamant that their way is right, so why aren't we all thin?! It makes so much sense, if you are struggling with your weight, open your mind and listen to this book. I feel like I've found the answer to my life's biggest puzzle. Xx

Audible + Obesity Code = Skinnier YOU!
LIFE CHANGING!!!!! This is your first step to finally losing weight. Dr Fung has figured out the truth. I am insulin resistant (pre-diabetic) menopausal and have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, three of the biggest weight gain obstacles, and I am now FINALLY seeing results after years of following the horrendously wrong advice! I am down 10 kgs and steadily losing .5kg per week. I also recommend Gin Stephens - Delay Don't Deny and AC - Appetite Correction - Bert ???? both available on Audible.

A must read
I've been following IF for a few months now and hadn't seen a real difference. I was recommended to read/listen to this book, allowing for a better understanding of the different components that are needed for successful weightloss. I would suggest everyone read this before starting IF or anything similar. I realized I needed to change more of my diet ways to help with the IF process. Still a bit too early to give my overall success with this way of eating, but I'm feeling good about it, and simply it makes perfect sense.

Very informative
Some great information in here but I don’t necessarily believe it all.... women and in particular, those with existing hormone issues, especially thyroid, need to be careful with low carb.... done great takeaways in this book but will be great to have a version specific to women.
