About this listen

New York Times best-selling author Lisa Renee Jones brings a fresh, modern take to the thriller genre that will keep you guessing until the very end.

“The poet is a liar who always speaks the truth.” (Jean Cocteau)

Some call him friend or boss.
Some call him husband or dad.
Some call him son, even a favorite son.

But the only title that matters to him is the one the media has given him: The Poet.

A name he earned from the written words he leaves behind after he kills that are as dark and mysterious as the reason he chooses his victims.

One word, two, three, a story in a poem, a secret that only Detective Samantha Jazz can solve. Because he’s writing this story for her.

She just doesn’t know it yet.

This crime fiction was pure thriller start to end that kept me as a reader totally on my toes, till the end thinking about who might the Poet be.

When a chilling unaliving happens wherein there's no mess involved and a poem left there, Samantha is called upon as her knowledge of poetry might help in solving the case.

Detective Samantha Jazz loves her work but when she's handed this new case to work on, she starts feeling things are not right. Case in point, the previous detective handling it abruptly vanishes and nobody is able to contact him.
Second, the presence she feels lurking around that's chilling and unexplainable.

What Sam is unaware of is how deeply the unalivings are actually related to her because the Poet is someone related to her past and she will have to race against time if she wants to save not only other people but her own family and friends and herself.

I liked how we get two povs in this, one from Samantha's pov and the other from the Poet, the unaliver himself.

For me it raised the stakes and kept things highly intriguing because along with Samantha I was trying to find atleast a speck of clue or suspicion onto who it could be because here as a reader inspite of having his pov wherein you try to decipher some sort of indication as to his identity, yet our author has written this so amazingly that it all the more builds the suspense.

We are taken onto a suspense filled ride joining Detective Sam as she goes on finding clues to make the puzzle complete as to find the Poet.
With her partner Lang, they don't leave a single clue unresearched.

Wade, the FBI agent and Sam's ex was so perfect for her. Working in this field, it's important to have the sort of understanding for your partner while being their supporter and caring for them and I felt Wade did that beautifully for Samantha.

I have to say though, our author has written this so brilliantly that I was suspecting every other character we come across.
The twists are such that they hit you unknowingly and leaving things all the more tangled.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this Suspense filled thriller ride. Both the narrators kept the story's pacing and thrill factor perfectly matched.
Scott Brick's voice was that perfect rendering of chilling and sinister while Brittany pressley perfectly rendered Samantha's strength and all her emotional highs and lows.

This one will keep you hooked till the end with its absolutely unpredictable and gripping storyline while giving you chills as to who could it be and how will Samantha ever know who it is.
Loved loved this one.

An absolutely gripping, Suspense filled thriller
