Publisher's Summary

An updated edition of the self-published book that sold more than 100,000 copies, with a new chapter on the 2018 tax cuts.

There's a massive freight train bearing down on the average American investor, and it's coming in the form of higher taxes.

The United States Government has made trillions of dollars in unfunded promises for programs like Social Security and Medicare - and the only way to deliver on these promises is to raise taxes. Some experts have even suggested that tax rates will need to double, just to keep our country solvent. Unfortunately, if you're like most Americans, you've saved the majority of your retirement assets in tax-deferred vehicles like 401(k)s and IRAs. If tax rates go up, how much of your hard-earned money will you really get to keep?

In The Power of Zero, McKnight provides a concise, step-by-step roadmap on how to get to the zero percent tax bracket by the time you retire, effectively eliminating tax rate risk from your retirement picture. Now, in this expanded edition, McKnight has updated the book with a new chapter on the "2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act", telling listeners how to navigate the new tax law in its first year of being in effect, and how they can extend the life of their retirement savings by taking advantage of it now.

The day of reckoning is fast approaching. Are you ready to do what it takes to experience the power of zero?

Includes a PDF of charts from the book.

Not a retirement finance book. salespitch for LIRP

I earned a lot that i did not know. However, there is a very biased pitch for certain questionable insurance products. I read this for the adjunct things to be learned about taxes in retirement. Then I sought out other books on the topics. The purpose of this book is clearly to sell LIRPs. So read knowing that this in an infomercial. LIRP is the same tool you will hear pitched as "Bank on Yourself". Proceed with caution. There is a lot of info on line about LIRPs to help you balance what you learn here. For instance read Nerdwallets take on these insurance products.

The Power of Zero refers to 0 Tax Bracket!

I work in the financial area, and I discovered Index Annuities, which were marvelous at not losing money. I thought that was what the title referred to, so I was AMAZED when it was actually about getting into the ZERO TAX BRACKET! An Idea I have Never heard before, and realize it could be a goal for many people. And it goes together well with IUL's ie Index Universal Life plans.

I learned many many spicy tidbits, Like, You don't have to guess anymore if taxes are going up, they are guaranteed to go up when the "Tax cut and Jobs Act" Sunsets on January 1, of 2026! Nothing more needs to happen to get higher rates, as they are scheduled to return to where they were BEFORE the tax law came in to effect.

I got this Book as an Audible, and set the speed for most of it at 1.5, so I listened to half the book, in a few hours on the first night.

This Book is OUTSTANDING, and no, I had no idea who wrote this book before I got it. My company just mentions it a lot, but I had always wanted to get the book, but expected it to be about the Power of not Losing Money in Retirement. Although it is also about that, the bigger picture is more matter of fact, and shows how a person can rely on math rather than emotions to make the good decision to get away from highly taxed investments, and go to ZERO taxed investments for retirement money at least.

Everyone ought to read this book!

Most of us think contributing to a 401k, IRA, or some other tax-deferred account is what we’re supposed to do. I never knew this could potentially be harmful to me in the future if not done appropriately. I want to listen to this book ten more times and take detailed notes!! I’ve already purchased his next book on LIRPs specifically. Looking forward to digging into that!

powerful book

So much knowledge backed in. Would of liked a few more life examples of the scenarios. However I understand that would have dragged out the book. The fact it was quick, played a nice roll in the 5 stars. Often times these topics drag on to long.

One long infomercial

The first 3-4 chapters sounded convincing enough, but then along came the one tax-free strategy - the LIRP; i.e. Life Insurance. The rest of the book was devoted to selling you on the idea of life insurance. I was very disappointed. I was hoping for a variety of different tax-free strategies. I know there are others out there. I'm using a couple of them, but was really wanting to learn about what other options there are.

This is a Paid Infomercial

The whole intent of this book assumes that it was given to you by one of their salesmen and how great they are and to trust in them with all and I said all of your money! There are way too many risks in doing what they are suggesting and they try to say that the high fees of their business are in line with the fees of other retirement plans by using a worst case scenario to their best case scenario. My retirement account does not have nearly the fees they state it has so it is no comparison. Way too risky for me! All in all this is a paid infomercial, so don't waste your time.

Why don’t we learn this in school?

Amazing stuff that I wish I knew a long time ago, but I am glad I know it now. It‘s never to late!
