जॉर्ज सॅम्युएल क्लॅसन यांचा जन्म 7 नोव्हेंबर, 1874 मध्ये मिझौरी येथील लुवीझियाना येथे झाला. नेब्रास्का विश्वविद्यालयात त्यांनी शिक्षण पूर्ण केले आणि स्पॅनिश-अमेरिकन युद्धात, ते अमेरिकन आर्मीमध्ये नोकरी करून सहभागी झाले होते. त्यांच्या प्रदीर्घ प्रकाशन व्यवसायाची सुरुवात त्यांनी डेन्व्हर कॉलरेडो येथे क्लॅसन मॅप कंपनी या प्रकाशन संस्थेची स्थापना करून केली. अमेरिका आणि कॅनडा या देशांच्या रस्त्यांच्या नकाशाचे पहिले पुस्तक प्रकाशित करून त्यांनी व्यवसायाचा श्रीगणेशा केला. 1926 मध्ये त्यांनी काटकसर आणि आर्थिक यश यासंदर्भातील एक पत्रकांची मालिका प्रकाशित केली आणि अल्पावधीतच ती अत्यंत प्रसिद्ध झाली, त्यातील प्रत्येक मुद्दा सिद्ध करण्यासाठी त्यांनी पौराणिक शहर बॅबीलॉनमधील नीतिकथेचा आधार घेतला. बँका आणि विमा कंपन्यांनी त्यांच्या पत्रकांचे मोठ्या प्रमाणात वितरण केले, त्यामुळे जॉर्ज क्लॅसन हे नाव लाखो लोकांना परिचित झाले. प्रस्तुत पुस्तकाचे शीर्षक असलेले ‘बॅबीलॉनचा धनाढ्य’ हे त्या अनेक प्रसिद्ध पत्रकांपैकी सर्वांत लोकप्रिय बोधकथेचे पुस्तक आहे. ‘बॅबीलॉनच्या नीतिकथा’ या आजच्या काळातही अत्यंत प्रेरणादायक आणि श्रेष्ठ कथा ठरल्या आहेत.
