The searing, postapocalyptic novel destined to become Cormac McCarthy's masterpiece. A father and his son walk alone through burned America. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind. It is cold enough to crack stones, and when the snow falls it is gray. The sky is dark. Their destination is the coast, although they don't know what, if anything, awaits them there. They have nothing; just a pistol to defend themselves against the lawless bands that stalk the road, the clothes they are wearing, a cart of scavenged food-and each other. The Road is the profoundly moving story of a journey. It boldly imagines a future in which no hope remains, but in which the father and his son, "each the other's world entire," are sustained by love. Awesome in the totality of its vision, it is an unflinching meditation on the worst and the best that we are capable of: ultimate destructiveness, desperate tenacity, and the tenderness that keeps two people alive in the face of total devastation.©2006 Cormac McCarthy (P)2006 Recorded Books Fantasy Genre Fiction Literary Fiction Science Fiction

Simple and shuttle apocalypse story but the conversation between father and son sets that emotional weight that makes it perfect

It is one of the best you will get in audible. There are moments when you will want to pause because you cannot take in more. I can not imagine a better performance as far as narration is concerned.

Savage and divine. Heart rending and inspiring

The Road by Cormac McCarthy is a hauntingly beautiful exploration of survival, love, and morality in a post-apocalyptic world. The story follows a father and his young son as they traverse a desolate, ash-covered landscape, striving to remain alive and hold onto their humanity.

McCarthy’s sparse yet poetic prose captures the bleakness of their journey while illuminating the profound bond between the two. Themes of hope and despair intertwine as they face constant threats from the environment and other survivors.

A powerful meditation on what it means to endure, The Road leaves readers with a deep sense of fragility and resilience.

the narrator Tom stechschulte is a genius. I was so mesmerised by his reading that I googled and found he is an actor. I haven't seen him act but if it is anything close to his voice acting, we missed out on a film adaptation that would have been much more poignant and powerful than what we got.

one of the best narrations I have heard!!

I enjoyed the beauty of little things along with our unnamed narrator and his kid.

Mundane and beautiful!
