It helps to understand the mind of an young girl, her feelings, aspirations and the life’s challenges thrown on her and how she reacts and responds. The author has expertly captured the girl’s emotions and feelings. For some, it may look like a routine story, but for me, it’s a good story to listen/read. Finally the narrator (by her excellent narration) infused life to this audible version.

Couple of bizarre pronunciations and author choices… not sure why some one from Birmingham had such a Home Counties accent. Plus there would be a visa issue even for volunteering in India. Polyester rather cotton nighties??
