Story
In fifth grade my teacher set us up with pen pals from a different school. Thinking I was a girl, with a name like Misha, the other teacher paired me up with her student Ryen. My teacher, believing Ryen was a boy like me, agreed. It didn't take long for us to figure out the mistake. And in no time at all, we were arguing about everything. The best take-out pizza. Android vs. iPhone. Whether or not Eminem is the greatest rapper ever. For the next seven years, it was us. She's the only one who keeps me on track, talks me down, and accepts everything I am.

Story
Piranesi lives in the House. Perhaps he always has. In his notebooks, day after day, he makes a clear and careful record of its wonders: the labyrinth of halls, the thousands upon thousands of statues, the tides that thunder up staircases, the clouds that move in slow procession through the upper halls. On Tuesdays and Fridays Piranesi sees his friend, the Other. At other times he brings tributes of food to the Dead. But mostly, he is alone.

Publisher's Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
THE BESTSELLER THAT DEFINED AN AGE
Penguin presents the audio edition of The Secret History, read by the author.
'Everything, somehow, fit together; some sly and benevolent Providence was revealing itself by degrees and I felt myself trembling on the brink of a fabulous discovery, as though any morning it was all going to come together---my future, my past, the whole of my life---and I was going to sit up in bed like a thunderbolt and say oh! oh! oh!'
Under the influence of a charismatic classics professor, a group of clever, eccentric misfits at a New England college discover a way of thought and life a world away from their banal contemporaries. But their search for the transcendent leads them down a dangerous path, beyond human constructs of morality.
Critic Reviews
"Haunting, compelling, brilliant." (The Times)

Fans of dense and dark academia, this is your book
The book is very dense and heavy but well written. The writing style is just *chef's kiss*. I personally felt that the book started like a banger, got a little slow and boring in the middle and then picked up speed and spice again in the end. The last few chapters were very intriguing and spicy (I really can't find a better word to describe that feeling other than spicy) .
The main character, Richard, is a little bland and boring at times but he too has his moments. But all the other characters were so layered and ostentatious with a mysterious flair that it binds the book perfectly.

Sophisticated, terrifying, beautiful
What remains if you cancel out the whodunnit element of a murder mystery? If you knew who dies and how in the very first passage of the book? In A Secret History, it's 22 hours of vivid storytelling that makes you forget your surroundings.
.
You picture everything like a movie captured in noiresque aesthetics; the elitist circle of students learning Greek language and history, friendships bound by things beautiful and terrible, maddening thrills followed by long phases of desolation which are surprisingly followed by more heart-stopping turn of events.
.
This isn't the kind of murder mystery that dishes thrilling twists at the expense of emotions and human experience. Rather you live the many chaotic events that lead up the unraveling and you grapple to comprehend the mind of the characters - only to realise that one cannot satisfyingly understand another or the self.
.
Disclaimer: The first 7 chapters seem boring. The rest of the 21 chapters though are delicious!

It was ok.... Didn't like the ending too much
The overall story was very interesting and the narration was pretty good, but was disappointed by the ending of the book.
