Publisher's Summary

A woman on the run finds refuge in a motel at the edge of the woods, with plenty of vacancies. Check in for the night with New York Times bestselling author Lisa Unger.

Eve has a fake ID, a .38, and a violent lover receding in the rearview mirror. He’ll never find her at the isolated motel, and its kindly manager is happy to ease her fears. But if Eve is the only guest, whom does she keep hearing on the other side of the wall? Eve won’t get a good night’s rest until she finds out.

Lisa Unger’s The Sleep Tight Motel is part of Dark Corners, a collection of seven heart-stopping short stories by bestselling authors who give you so many new reasons to be afraid. Each story can be read in a single sitting. Or, if you have the nerve, you can listen all by yourself in the dark.

The reading is flat, dull, and awful

The story may be okay, but I'm having a hard time getting past the terrible reading. It's flat, dull, and has an oddly robotic cadence. I first thought it was being read by the default accessibility reader on my phone because it was so strangely robotic. There's no feeling, no warmth. The reader feels completely disengaged from the story. Since I got this through Kindle Unlimited, I'll try reading the book on my Kindle and forego the audio. I see they used the same reader or all of the Dark Corners Collection. I'll see if those are any better, but I'm not feeling very hopeful right now.

Just OK

Helped pass an hour and half away on road trip. Nothing new in ghost storytelling. Narrator should not try to do male voices. Very distracting.

Reader makes it unbearable.

It's difficult to rate the story itself since the person reading was so bad that I stopped a third of the way in. Besides resembling a text-to-speech program, her reading of male parts was equally ridiculous and frustrating. She tried so hard to lower her voice that her delivery of the lines didn't the way anyone would say them. Rather it just sounded like she was struggling to get the words out. On top of that, it simply sounded absurd. If the story interests you try reading it instead.

OKAY.

This audiobook was okay. Kind of slow moving and a little confusing until it all kind of comes together in the end with the mild shock. Nothing spectacular about it at all.

Spellbinding story ruined by robotic narrator

Lisa Unger is a NYT best selling author, and indeed this is a well-written story. Unfortunately, the narration by Amy Landon is so bad that I nearly stopped listening just a few minutes into the story. I'm glad I didn't. The story carried the day. But I won't buy another book narrated by Landon. Her voice is robotic with no warmth.

So back to the story. A young woman, fleeing from an abusive boyfriend, pulls into an out-of-the way motel. The owner is very attentive to her needs, and she wants to like him. But she's got to get back on the road. Unfortunately, her car won't start and she is stuck. This is really where the story begins to unfold. To go any further would be to introduce spoilers. You'll have to read it for yourself. I do recommend reading it rather than listening to the audiobook. I think the experience will be much better.

It was a dull listen.

The narration was dull, lifeless and robotic sounding. if this had been longer than the 1+ hr I wouldn't have finished it.

Narration made me sleepy

Didn’t care much for the story and really had trouble with narration. Too slow which made the back and forth of the story line more confusing.

Excellent

Love everything about this one! Great new spin on story line that's been around "forever".
