This is a story about two very different women.
One is wealthy and having an affair with a man who gives her the kind of love that her cold, detached husband does not.
One is living hand to mouth, suffering at the hands of a violent partner who would rather see her dead than leave him.
You may think you know these women already and how their lives will unfold.
Beth will live happily ever after with her little girl and her soulmate.
Cath will go back to her abusive husband.
And these two women will never cross paths.
But you will be wrong.
On the 3.15pm train from London to Bristol, Beth and Cath are about to meet and discover they share one shocking thing in common.
A clever, engrossing and absolutely enthralling listen about what really lies beneath the surface of a marriage. Fans of Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train will be hooked on The Stranger’s Wife.

Surprising find
Great read, kept me wanting to listen, twists you haven’t read before. The story and narration are fantastic. It kept reminding me of the Cormoran Strike series by Robert Galbraith (aka JK Rowling). I have not read any other Detective Dan Riley books and this is the third in the series and easy to read as a stand-alone book. I’m going to look up the others now.

NOT like Gone Girl
I’m so tired of reviews comparing books to gone girl or the girl on the train. This book is nowhere near as good as either of those. Meanders along with no gotcha moments or any real tension. Good narrators though.

Love this Author
This a new author to me and read The Stranger’s Wife first, but then went back and read her first two books Black Heart and Couple on Cedar Close. Listening to these books and getting to know Detective Dan Riley was a very entertaining and heartwarming journey. Especially enjoyed the detective’s very dry, sharp wit and keen insight into those around him, in and outside the office. Narration is outstanding. Several other reviewers said they could figure out “who done it” early in book, as did I, but who cares when story and narration otherwise so perfect. Will definitely look forward to more chapters in Det Riley’s life. If you like British murder mysteries as I do, most HIGHLY RECOMMEND this series🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Great suspense story - speed up narration.
The description likened the book to "Gone Girl" and other famous suspense stories. Yes, it was suspenseful, well written, a little bit twisty but did not compare.
The story was good and narration was great (1.15X speed was perfect).
I listened to the whole book in 2 days it was that gripping but unfortunately it was too easy to figure out the end.
I still think it's a great book if you enjoy this genre but don't have the expectations that it will be anything like the books the publishers try to compare it to.
I did really enjoy it.

very thin story stretched to breaking point
this novel is well written and well read. its good to find a new writer who can pace well, and craft a good sentence.
that said, this novel has practically no story. the twist can be worked out a mile off and the agonising of the detective trying to work it out is painful.
everything is repeated, all thoughts, all actions, all convos just go on and on saying the same thing. its tedious.
its also quite nasty, sexual violence, child abuse, domestic abuse etc. the blurb should give a trigger warning.
i found i jumped large sections and still found the same few characters saying the same thing.
i wouldnt recommend at all, nasty content and ultimately boring.

Implausible and waffles
Starts off okay but degenerates into waffling conversations in which things are tediously reiterated and where the characters make stupid decisions. There just is no reason why a certain item would be replaced or another not copied immediately several times by the protagonist - or why, towards the end, information is sent anonymously when it would be blatantly obvious to anyone who knew the couple. I could go on. I ended up fast forwarding chunks of this and got immensely bored. If I hadn’t been in the middle of cleaning my kitchen cupboards at the time I would probably have ditched it in favour of something else. Can’t believe it was ever edited.

Beginning was promising but
the last half was very droning and nearly seemed like a different story.
You read it from at the start what I suppose was the victims point of view but then from the the police detective which then is confusing as you don’t know who you are supposed to be following. No twists as you already know what happens. The story drones on and on from the last half of the book and you begin to wish it was the end already.
While the detective very very slowly works out what happened then bringing in his personal life which all seemed a bit half hearted and had no point to the story. Which you know already.
Feel the author got lost half way through and changed the concept of the book altogether. And couldn’t make up their minds who this was about.
Somewhere there is a page turner out there, for me this definitely isn’t one.

Not as good as the first two
Quite a good book and nice to catch up with the characters again and see Dan become a Father but the story line wasn’t anywhere near as good the first two books.
It all seemed a bit disjointed and hurried with no real connection.
Overall, a strange third book but good enough to read if you have read the first two books and want to here what happens next in Dan Riley’s life

A good listen but not much to the main storyline
I’ve really enjoyed this series, and this was an engaging listen but the whole storyline around the two main characters meeting was a bit disappointing. I thought there would be more to it than two people who look really similar met on a train, which was underwhelming. This encounter/connection underpins the whole story so I thought it would involve a lot more... maybe I am missing something. Worth listening to though if you enjoy the Dan Riley series.
