the lisp is grating

I wanted to like this but the sugary lisp was grating and they rhyming was forced. This is probably one of those books that's better with picture. I actually felt pretty insulted by the lisp. My son has apraxia and has trouble pronouncing certain letters correctly. It's just taking the piss to do so when you yourself do not have such a difficulty.

Absolutely Outstanding!!

I am a huge Matt Haig fan and he knocked it out of the park with this one. Olivia Coleman is a singularly gifted narrator. Thank you for sharing this, Matt.

Review by a 6 and a half year old

I liked how the truth fairy told the truth because it was funny and I particularly liked the bit where she said ‘and the mouse in my hair has done a poo’.
I have it a four because Roald Dahl books are better

Be True to Yourself and to Others!

Lovely little tale that warms up as it goes along and becomes something really quite rich and wonderful by the end. Haig's tale is dedicated to the misfits among us - the ones who can't help being who they are, and occasionally are made to think they must change or hide themselves in order to be loved and accepted. A great story with lots of learning opportunities for kids - and adults too!

Olivia Colman is a delightful narrator - she reads the book like the born storyteller she is, mixing voices and mischief and rhythm to great effect. Her kids must get the best bedtime stories!!

Best book

I read the Matt Haig adult books and love him the way he writes ,it is perfect! But this book for children is simply the best book I have listened to. I can not describe in words the simple and important life lesson within the book. We also have the hard copy
Of the book to read over and over. THIS IS WHAT OUR CHILDREN SHOULD BE TUNED IN TO!

Charming narration

I've listened to Matt Haig's Christmas series over each of the last four years, with this 'spin off' as the latest. Unlike the trilogy from which it originates, this story is performed in a lyrical, rhyming style and is aimed at considerably younger children. It is a nice little story with a moral message, and Olivia Coleman excels at every character; from pixie to cow. I will not listen to it again in the way I know that I shall revisit the trilogy, but for those with very little ones this will be perfect.
