About this listen

The Second Vermont Republic is a peaceful, democratic, grassroots political movement committed to the return of Vermont to its rightful status as an independent republic, as was the case in 1791, and to the support of Vermont's future development as a separate, sustainable nation-state.

Thomas H. Naylor is Professor Emeritus of Economics at Duke University and the author of Affluenza and The Vermont Manifesto.

This speech was recorded on November 13, 2003, at the University of Maine in Orono.

This audio also includes the reading of a new one act play by Carolyn Chute, entitled Totally Divine and featuring Carolyn Chute as the narrator, Roger Leisner as God, and Jonah Fertig as George Bush. The reading of the play was recorded on October 23, 2003, at the Lawrence Center for the Arts in Portland, Maine.
