Horrible Narrator

What would have made The Winning Hand better?

Another narrator.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Winning Hand?

Sorry, but I couldn't listen long enough to find anything memorable.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Angela Dawe?

Sandra Burr, Jenny Sterling, Davina Porter, etc.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment and anger as I had planned to order the entire series.

Any additional comments?

I read this series in hardback years ago and was delighted to find it on audio - that is until I heard Ms. Dawe speaking the part of Darcy - who sounds about 13. The sample was a male voice - deep, rich and very much in the role of Ms. Roberts' usual romantic characters, but when he and Darcy converse, Ms. Dawe's narration makes him creepy - like a much older man attempting to lure a child into a sexual liaison. Her particular rendition of Darcy's voice is further baffling as she reads other female characters in this book naturally - especially Blake's mother. Too bad she was chosen as the narrator because this book is one of the best in the series.

Didn't like this one

I didn't care for this "innocent" heroine. It could be the story or the horrible voice used by the narrator. Don't waste a credit. Buy One Man's Art by the same author and narrator but is so much better than this one.

Re:7 the winning hand

just a small comment. If I hadnt known there were more books after this one, I would have said it ended too soon and left us up in the air. However knowing there are more after this, I'm sure Ms. Roberts will get around to letting her readers know about the next phase in their relationship and what happens. And I'm sure of this because of them being in this big McGregor family!

Recommended

A long time favorite of mine. Darcy comes across as a naive, small midwest town innocent. Mac feels a little like the big bad wolf as he becomes more and more attracted to Darcy.

This feels like a Cinderella type story with a twist. I have always been a sucker for that. Rags to riches with a level headed woman who is ready to take charge. This story has it all and it's great.

Angela Dawe does a good job portraying the characters and narrating. I liked the her pacing was consistent with the story.

A good story and well read

I am always reluctant to hear someone read my old favorites because it’s so easy to ruin a story for me. I felt that Angela Dawe did a very good job with this book and I will be looking for other books she reads.

Adorable story.

Darcy's story is my favorite of all the MacGregor books. She finds herself and she finds the MacGregors.

The narrator had an annoying lisp that took some getting used to. I've read the book over a dozen times and the audiobook was a bit of a let down.

The Winning Hand

Another MacGregor love story this time not orchestrated by Daniel all though he made his positive option known.

Darcy... a good twist

I did expect for Jeffrey to be more of a problem but it still was a wonderful book.

Another wonderful tale of the MacGregor's

I enjoyed the 9th book in the series. Amazing that Nora Roberts comes up with so many wonderful stories. So thankful a teacher took the time to teach me the joy of reading!
