About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

The Sunday Times bestseller

Tasha has always felt in the shadow of her older sister, Alice. Their lifestyles couldn't be more different; Alice is married to wealthy entrepreneur Kyle and has a high-flying career, Tasha is married to her childhood sweetheart and lives in a Bristol suburb with their four-year-old twins.

When Alice realises that Tasha is struggling - with money, the kids, losing her identity - she suggests they do a lifeswap for a week. Alice and Kyle will come to stay at Tasha's terraced house to look after the twins, while Tasha and Harry spend the week in Alice and Kyle's Venice apartment.

But a few days in, it all goes terribly wrong. Tasha receives a phonecall to say Alice is in hospital and Kyle is dead after an intruder broke into their house. They think it must have been a burglary gone wrong.

Until a note arrives through the letterbox saying It was supposed to be you.

Who was there that night, and why?
Is it really Tasha they are targeting?
And can these two sisters find the answers they need, or are they about to stumble upon something more sinister?

'I loved this twisty novel' RICHARD OSMAN
'Clever. Gripping. Terrifically compelling' SARAH PEARSE
'Few people do psychological thrillers as claustrophobic and as creepy as Claire Douglas' TIM WEAVER

Critic Reviews

Outstanding. A terrific family drama revealing how little the sisters know about each other and their own history
An intricately plotted chiller with a shocking twist
I raced through The Wrong Sister - it’s such a masterclass in building tension from the dream Venice break at the start to the nightmare it becomes. The solution to the mystery is so clever I was nowhere near guessing it! I loved it. (HARRIET TYCE)
Brilliant...I was blown away by the intricate plotting, the page-turning tension and the relatability of the sisters and their wider families. And boy, do they have secrets!'
The Wrong Sister is Claire Douglas at her finest - page-turning, compelling and utterly addictive. I couldn't put it down! (LUCY CLARKE)
This is a book that won’t leave you be. It’s a brilliant jigsaw of suspicious characters, grisly deeds, and family tragedy - and Douglas only lets you see the full picture on the very last page. (ABIGAIL DEAN)
A triumph of masterful misdirection and intricate plotting. It keeps you guessing from the first page to the last and it's Claire Douglas's best book yet. If you love a Christie-esque mystery that keeps you guessing, The Wrong Sister definitely won't disappoint (C.L. TAYLOR)
Claire Douglas has done it again with this twisty, ingenious and suspenseful tale of long-buried secrets – a real treat for psychological thriller fans (TM LOGAN)
Spine-chilling scenarios and a catalogue of twisty connections ensue. Claire Douglas layers her stories with atmospheric suspense. This is edgy, unsettling and unputdownable.
What an excellent thriller. The plot was both full of unexpected twists and still completely plausible, the characters were brilliantly drawn, and the writing was great. Claire Douglas keeps getting better and better (LOUISE O'NEILL)

I loved how expressive the audio version of the book was. I accidentally chose this book, cause my plan was to buy "The Couple at No.9", but due to it's unavailability ended up buying this. I'm glad that I did...cause it's quite engaging and edgy. But it's kinda slow-burn thriller.

A different kinda twist

Overrated? 1 star for big reveal though her motive seems non sensical. Pothole or rather plot holes, loopholes? No 4 stars for leaving lots of unanswered questions which made it seem like we were reading an unpublished draft, rather than a published novel by PENGUIN. Can you imagine them publishing this book and its hyped rating for no reason, because I can't. 96% of the book is filled with long bever ending paragraphs about incessant fazing agony. So many distractions with no plausible conclusive explanation and can go on and on just to make sense of this scattered plot. Good luck to you if you still want to read it.

Audible the best, book the opposite, read below to find out more!!
