Very useful content, but too much repetition

3.5 stars

This book has left me with conflicting feelings about its content. While every point it speaks about related to content marketing is 100% useful, the amount of repetition of these points and Marcus's self-promotion and boasting were not easy to get through.

I understood each point the moment they were made and therefore found the reiterations annoying.

The case studies were great, though. Good to know how different companies are implementing the They Ask You Answer principles.

Maybe if someone could produce an abridged version of this book, I'd recommend it highly. As it stands, I recommend you keep a writing pad to make notes, and have a lot of patience with the repetitions.

Definitely worth reading!

The book is very interesting and well presented in so far as employing content as a strategy is concerned. However, it must be read in context to the current scenario in the world of content because this book dates from a few years ago when content optimisation was still a fledgeling concept.

What makes this book so good are the case studies presented. One of them is the company the author is a part of and the others are companies from different sectors.

best business book I've read yet!

this book was very enlightening and educational. my company for years has been doing content and videos. but we were not doing a good job of knowing how to utilize it and where to put it on the internet to make it into sales.
highly recommend to read for your business.!

Thank you for telling it like it is!

Love how glaringly obvious Marcus’ thoughts are in this book. Of course obvious is sometimes hard to swallow but the validity of They Ask, You Answer are undisputed.

Cadence

As one of the worlds foremost advocates of audio books Do NOT make this your first listen. Not a personal attack, and candidly I found myself watching my own cadence when speaking to colleagues and the like.

(Accidental Positive Byproduct)

All in all because audio is my most effecient way to consume and take action from others wisdom, I came to like Marcus and really value his sage leadership on a topic I need to enact.

Reccomend setting to 1.15 speed. ;)

Great points but too repetitive

I loved the style, the author deuce ring the audio version is truly a bonus. His enthusiasm and conviction when relating the valuable data made me forget how repetitive some parts were. The data itself is very good, useful and actionable for any business even if you are just yourself like me currently.

Couldn’t Keep Listening, Narrator ruined it.

A friend recommended this book to me, and I’m sure the content is informative. That being said, I only made it an hour into it before I just couldn’t stand the way Marcus was reading anymore. His vocal inflections while reading were stochastic, and almost made it seem like he was out of breath the whole time. Maybe exasperated is the right word. I’d be interested to see the text version and find out if every sentence actually has two or three commas. He also takes a big breath and a long pause right before saying the last two or three words of every sentence. It makes sense every once and a while for emphasis, but definitely. Not. [inhale]… every-single-sentence.

Very well read with memorable stories

After seeing a Marcus Sheridan talk for ActIonCOACH, I bought this for more info and am so pleased I did.

Stories demand reflection and stick in my mind as clear examples & encourage action. The enthusiastic author reads his book which contains no fluff and always shares valuable callbacks that link the content with facts and narrative! I would happily listen again and reflect on the whole, taking inspiration for the parts of marketing I can implement to support the bigger, longer term picture.

A simple and elegant solution to on line marketing

A doable approach to on line marketing that most businesses will just ignore claiming they just don't have the time, which is great for any business that says "we can do this,in fact we are already doing it" but we need to do it better. It's s good to know that we will be ahead of the competition as we have already put they ask you answer into practice in a week.
