About this listen
There is an ancient Chinese proverb that states, "Two tigers cannot share the same mountain." However, in East Asia, there are three tigers on that mountain: China, Japan, and Korea, and they have a long history of turmoil and tension with each other.
In his latest entertaining and thought-provoking narrative travelogue, Michael Booth sets out to discover how deep, really, the enmity is between these three "tiger" nations and what prevents them from making peace. Currently, China's economic power continues to grow, Japan is becoming more militaristic, and Korea struggles to reconcile its Westernized South with the dictatorial Communist North.
Booth, long fascinated with the region, travels by car, ferry, train, and foot, experiencing the people and culture of these nations up close. No matter where he goes, the burden of history and the memory of past atrocities continue to overshadow present relationships. Ultimately, Booth seeks a way forward for these closely intertwined, neighboring nations.
An enlightening, entertaining and sometimes sobering journey through China, Japan, and Korea, Three Tigers, One Mountain is an intimate and in-depth look at some of the world's most powerful and important countries.

Michael have put up really good points thru out the book as a Gaijin for all 3 countries.
This is really a fresh perspective. I knew 50-60% of the events mentioned in the book as I have immense interest in this trio since my college days and have read 4-5 books on WW2 atrocities in Asia I loved this book, it is very well written. How WW2 changed them, scarred them for life.
Even author has covered the point of International Politics in between these countries.
I loved the part in the book where he explained a thing or two about a Taiwan.
Brilliant Book. Must Read.

Korea is more Confusion than Chinese!
There are a bulk of Koreans in Japan who support the mad North Korean dictators!
Taiwan has more organised criminal groups who insert themselves into the management of the country than any other developed country in the world.
Seoul is the worlds cosmetic surgery Capital of the world!
Surprisingly, it’s also a place where patients who undergo dangerous cosmetic surgeries just to enhance their looks, end up getting botched and scarred as they in reality were operated upon by nurses or half trained interns!
Much more gems like that are in this book and the author takes you through some very interesting landscape of Chinese/ Japanese/ Korean historical interactions!
There are very deep thoughts about how the Japanese still perceive what they inflicted on the Chinese and Koreans in the past and how that still manifests across this landscape.
A book not to be missed by anyone who wants to deep dive into the structure of these great countries.
