Publisher's Summary

Ollie and Celia think they know what the life of an elf is supposed to be like: Make toys. Help Santa. Make more toys. Help Santa. Try out a new ice-cream flavor. Help Santa. But then Santa rocks the North Pole with a surprise announcement! He's decided this is going to be his last year in the Big Red Suit, and, instead of letting his oldest son - the unfortunately named Klaus Claus - take over, he's opening up the job to any Claus or elf who wants to apply.

The Santa Trials have begun! Ollie and Celia enter the contest, having no idea whatsoever that they'll soon have to squeeze through impossible chimneys, race runaway sleighs, sweet-talk a squad of rowdy reindeer, and consume cruel amounts of cookies and milk. It's both an adventure and a survival test, far beyond what any Claus or elf has been asked to do before. But whoever rises to the top will get a reward even bigger than Christmas....

Santa Trials Contest- Fun for the whole Family

The basics of this storyline was that Santa was approaching his retirement and instead of passing it down to his son he felt it needed to be more fair and open to the other Claus family members, elves, etc. He announces the it's open to the children to give them time for job training and states that there will be a competition of intense trials/challenges that they will have to complete. It is completely family friendly, I started listening with my 11, 13, and 15 year old while we waited for nearly 2 hours in line for the Christmas in the Park lights drive through we do every year (Covid made this event extemely propular this year with crazy lines every night). We were quickly hooked into the story, we really enjoyed each of the trials, and simply had a ton of fun listening to it. The narrator was fantastic, he does all of the voices and really gets into the characters and acting. Kirby Heyborne is one of our favorite narrators and a big part of us buying the book. If you're looking for a fun Christmas book for the holiday drive or just for family fun look no further.
