Story
We tend to think of meditation as a formal practice we block time out for each day. But what if every moment of your life was your meditation? For Eckhart Tolle, meditation shouldn't be approached as a chore or a means to an end. Rather, meditation is something that you live. "The aim of meditation," states Eckhart, "is that it eventually becomes your normal state of consciousness." Essential Meditations with Eckhart Tolle points the way toward this quiet, constant state of Presence - where practice gives way to the realization of your innermost identity.

Publisher's Summary
Through the centuries, countless people from around the world have been coming to India, thirsty in their search for truth. Considered to be the birthplace of spirituality, India has produced more great mystics and spiritual teachers than any other country. What more fitting place for Eckhart to speak of the eternal Now? It is here on the banks of the holy Ganga, amidst the snow-capped Himalayas and the tremendous beauty of scarlet sunsets that a group of determined souls from around the globe met to sit together in silence. With Eckhart's guidance, the rigors of living in India served as teachers pointing to the release of attachment to form and to seeing deeper into the inner.
Join them in this transformational experience and allow yourself to be guided through words and stillness into the state of presence. This is the surrendered state of consciousness in which the very limitations of form become an opening into the divine. During this seven-day retreat, Eckhart speaks with humble authenticity, wisdom and humor on a wide range of subjects.
Lessons contained in this series: Children and spirituality, Conscious suffering, Self-esteem, Couple partnerships, Falling in love, Addiction, Guilt, Forgiveness, Prayer, Death and dying, Loneliness, Devotion.

In to the Presence
Loved it. Sublime, Comprehensive & Enough to take you to the Presence.
If you are new to Eckhart, the pauses and silences in between the talk may need some get used to, but as he says the silence may be more important than words and it's an important part of the whole teaching.

The "grittiest" (and deepest) of Tolle on audible
At the very beginning of this retreat you know it is going to be different from Tolle's other books and retreats. Maybe is is the influence of being in India but this is definitely the "grittiest" of the Tolle recordings available at audible.
What do I mean by "grittiest?" I mean the most realistic, the retreat that most acknowledges that not everyone is at the same level yet. The tone is not darker, but it is more nuanced.
For example, at the very beginning of the retreat he begins a familiar Tolle refrain, "you do not need more time." If you have listened to Tolle before you know what he means by that, you have everything you need in your life right now, there is nothing that you will have tomorrow that you do not have today. You can become present in your life right now. Check! Got it! I have heard this and I understand.
But wait! In this retreat he says, "well some of you do need more time." This made me pause for a moment. Really? Some of us do need more time. Why? Tolle goes on to say, "Because you may need more suffering." Ouch.
He says that some people - even some people at the retreat - may not yet be ready to be present because they are too attached to thoughts, material possessions, ego, etc. This is not new, but the way he emphasizes that some people might actually need to suffer more is a little different from the eight or so other Tolle books and retreats I have read.
The retreat itself is grittier, too. He talks to the retreat-attendees there in India about the limitations and hardships of being in India. This is the retreat that delves the most into these things. Even the questions the retreat attendees ask seem a little grittier.
This is also one of the longer audible Tolle offerings (which I think is great! The more the better). And the music used in this one is the most spiritual and inspiring too me.
Do not let this be your first Tolle book or retreat. For that I recommend of course the book "The Power of Now" that started it all or the fun and lighter retreat "Freedom from the World."
However, if you are a Tolle veteran and want to get into something long and deep and very real, this audio retreat is exceptional.

Meditation
Interesting experience listening to Eckhart. In the last chapter he speaks that he likes hugging and he would like to hug everyone before they go from the retreat. Last night he hugged me in my dream. I felt a cool breeze comming from him and I was in thoughtless awareness... I felt before this while dreaming about Shri Mataji.

Waves of bliss
If you could sum up Touching the Eternal in three words, what would they be?
Peace, presence, uplifting
What did you like best about this story?
Eckhart Tolle's calmness can be felt even through an audiobook, i loved that.
Any additional comments?
I loved his sense of humor. Even though there is a lot of information to digest, the lightheartedness of Eckhart Tolle somehow lightens the sometimes serious nature of spiritual conversations and makes it easy to relate to the teachings.

Disappointed :(
Chose this over The Power of Now or A New Earth. Chose wrong. The length is deceptive as much of it is a bell and Indian song. As the price reflects the length, this is misleading. The quality could have been better: If they can edit in song they could have played with the sound effects a little.

Everything Eckhart has to say is spot on as always. There is a disappointing amount of background hiss on the recording, and I would have preferred it without the song excerpt at the beginning and end of each chapter. Still, a lot of top quality wisdom for the money.

Profound and simple teachings
If you could sum up Touching the Eternal in three words, what would they be?
life changing and funny
Would you listen to another book narrated by Eckhart Tolle?
ABSOLUTELY!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, as it requires contemplation before moving on. To listen in one sitting would be like eating multiple xmas dinners in a row! One needs to listen bit by bit to allow it to digest.
Any additional comments?
I thoroughly enjoyed it. EXCEPT for the singing at the beginning and end of the chapters that became rather annoying after awhile.
