About this listen

An explosive love triangle, a formidable matriarch and a house party of enemies. All drawn inexorably … Towards Zero.

Now Anjelica Huston and a star-studded cast feature in a brand new BBC adaptation of Agatha Christie's tense, ingenious novel. Read it before you see it!

What is the connection between a failed suicide attempt, a wrongful accusation of theft against a schoolgirl, and the romantic life of a famous tennis player?

To the casual observer, apparently nothing. But when a houseparty gathers at Gull’s Point, the seaside home of an elderly widow, earlier events come to a dramatic head.

It’s all part of a carefully paid plan – for murder…

I bought this version of the audible book - ‘Towards Zero’, essentially because it was narrated by Hugh Fraser, whom I thought played Hastings brilliantly in the ‘Poirot’ TV series with David Suchet. He was even better here, as he brought subtle and varied inflexions and cadences to his reading and portrayal of different characters, which brought them vividly to life. In fact, characterisation in this book is a strong point, with well-delineated and developed characters.
The plot is vintage Christie, with all the intricate and clever twists and turns that keep one guessing until the end. There are initially some seemingly unrelated sub-plots, which appear to lack connection to the main thread of the story. But then, as the plot progresses, the separate threads come together beautifully, into one cohesive design.
I greatly enjoyed this audible book, which gripped attention from beginning to end.
