Als die allseits beliebte und geachtete Frau Schmidt bei der Aufführung des Musicals der Grundschule auf tragische Weise ums Leben kommt, ist jeder über diesen Unglücksfall entsetzt. Auch Kathi Wällmann, Mutter und gelangweilte Hausfrau, hätte Inge Schmidts Tod als Unfall angesehen, wenn sie nicht Grund zu der Annahme gehabt hätte, dass Inge Schmidt nicht so ehrenhaft gewesen war, wie sie andere glauben machen wollte. Kathi beginnt Fragen zu stellen und hat bald nicht mehr nur mit Langeweile, Übergewicht und Eheproblemen zu kämpfen, denn Inge soll nicht das einzige Opfer bleiben und Kathi bringt mit ihren Nachforschungen nicht nur sich selbst in Gefahr.
