Pludselig i begyndelsen af 1980'erne dukkede en ny sygdom op, som ingen vidste, hvad var, men som folk døde af, flest homoseksuelle mænd. Siden bredte den sig til hele samfundet og fik navnet aids. Med udgangspunkt i sit eget liv og sine egne erfaringer skriver Tomas Lagermand Lundme om en tid, hvor han selv var på vej ind i kærligheden og seksualiteten, men hvor sidstnævnte bogstavelig talt blev dødsensfarlig og traumatiserede så mange. Samtidig fortæller han om otte mennesker, som på hver sin måde blev smittet og døde. De tilhørte ingen, for ingen ville vide af dem.
