Story
It all happened so quickly. First, animals became infected with the virus and their meat became poisonous. Then, governments initiated the Transition. Now, 'special meat' - human meat - is legal. Marcos is in the business of slaughtering humans, only no one calls them that. He works with numbers, consignments, processing. One day, he's given a gift to seal a deal: a specimen of the finest quality. He leaves her in his barn, tied up, a problem to be disposed of later. But the specimen haunts Marcos. Her trembling body, her eyes that watch him, that seem to understand.

Story
After a bizarre and disturbing incident at the funeral of matriarch Marian Savage, the McCray and Savage families look forward to a restful and relaxing summer at Beldame, on Alabama's Gulf Coast, where three Victorian houses loom over the shimmering beach. Two of the houses are habitable, while the third is slowly and mysteriously being buried beneath an enormous dune of blindingly white sand. But though long uninhabited, the third house is not empty. Story
West Hall, Vermont, has always been a town of strange disappearances and old legends. The most mysterious is that of Sara Harrison Shea, who, in 1908, was found dead in the field behind her house just months after the tragic death of her daughter, Gertie. Now, in present day, 19-year-old Ruthie lives in Sara's farmhouse with her mother, Alice, and her younger sister, Fawn. Alice has always insisted that they live off the grid, a decision that suddenly proves perilous when Ruthie wakes up one morning to find that Alice has vanished without a trace. Searching for clues, she is startled to find a copy of Sara Harrison Shea's diary....

An 8 hour build up that fails to deliver
I really enjoyed “kill creek”, but this was nothing close. It seemed like the introduction to the characters and their situation took 8 long and drawn out hours, and made me wonder if anything was ever going to happen in this book. There were a few times that I thought the story might go in an interesting direction, but sadly, this failed to happen. Save the credit, I’m sure there is something better that would be exponentially more satisfying l.

Good story once it got going.
it took a really long time to get there... how much mundane mother/daughter time do you need?!

Another ghost story...
Didn’t realize this was going to be a ghost story. I strongly dislike supernatural and ghost stories. I forced myself to finish it as I paid for it.

I won't say I regretted it. Original but bad ending. Not what I looked for.

Mediocre and obvious
Here’s what the pic on the cover tells you. There’s a kid with a kid ghost for a friend. By extension there’s a mom who freaks out when she discovers this in a shit town in the middle of nowhere. That is the plot. It is THAT OBVIOUS. YEEEAAWN.

Slow to get going, but worth it.
I was drawn in from the moment I hit “play,” but I must admit that it took a long time to get rolling. I was probably half way through before it amped up. It’s still a good listen, though. There were a few moments that were difficult to hear, so I may have skipped ahead a few times. These were bits that were too descriptive for my taste. The narrator did a great job. If you like stories about the supernatural, I recommend you give this one a shot.
