Publisher's Summary

The thrilling sequel to Dance of Thieves, featuring danger, deception, and romance.

Kazi and Jase have survived, stronger and more in love than ever. Their new life now lies before them - the Ballengers will be outlaws no longer, Tor's Watch will be a kingdom, and the two of them will meet all challenges side by side, together at last.

But an ominous warning mars their journey back, and in their rush to return to Tor's Watch, just outside the fortress walls, they are violently attacked and torn apart - and each is thrust into their own new hell.

Unsure whether the other is alive or dead, Kazi and Jase must keep their wits among their greatest enemies and unlikeliest allies. And all the while, Death watches and waits.

Too long

I always love her writing--go Mary. But this sequel disappointed me in several ways. The story needed editing and tightening. There were too many irrelevant sub plots, and way too many characters I didn't care about. Karissa's narration was often whiny and forlorn. By the end I was ready for the axe about 75-100 listening pages in.

Fresh and fierce

The exploration of imperfect people, forgiveness, and love that belies logic made this story feel genuine. Relationships are complex and imperfect and love is a choice.

I was also intrigued by the “real world” inferences that were not explicit, and left me with questions.

I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of this story.

Great Sequel

I LOVED this series. I read the sister trilogy before and I completely understand why people say you don’t need to have read it to get everything, but it definitely made me fall even more in the love with characters having read it first. I would suggest you start with “The Kiss of Deception” before you read any of these.
Either way, it was wonderful. The end was a little drawn out, but ugh it was beautiful. I was shocked a few times by the store line and the separation of the two characters didn’t bother me as much as I assumed it would. The character development was marvelous. Jace is a good guy to his core. Kazi is so strong and I love her “I can take on the world” feminist vibe. She is amazing. Great read!
The performance was also amazing.

Loved it!

Another outstanding novel by Mary Pearson with outstanding performances that brought this story to life. Plenty of surprises and edge-of-your-seat moments. I couldn't help but fall in love with Jace and Kazi.

I liked it

After reading the first book and was a little upset cause it did have a bit of cliffhanger (not dramatic but WTH’s going to happen next vibe)
This being said book two definitely delivered. I liked the continuation and how the characters were developed. I was happy that I red Kazi’s story first. As I was waiting for this second book to come out I went back and read Lia’s (the queen) story. I really didn’t like the first series and I commented why in my review of that series. Had I read that first I wouldn’t have read Kazi’s story which is linked. You can definitely read Kazi’s before the queens you will not miss anything.
All this being said this was a good ending to Dance of thieves everything was wrapped up nicely and the old characters from the queens story made appearances and you got to see what happened with them. I was especially happy to get to see Kaden’s ending so that was a plus.
I felt that what I didn’t like about how the queens character was developed was made better in Kazi’s character development (strong female not whiny, or hormonal female)
The narrators were good, although the different accents they used for some of the characters were at most terrible but they were actually very funny so I didn’t mind.
Overall I recommend this one.

Movie please

Could they make a movie out of these two books.
Or, split the two books into two movies.
But have the same actors please sorry I mean have the same narrators play the characters in the movie please??
