Mario Minneti reaches Naples in search of his mentor-lover(?) Caravaggio and goes on a journey where he tries to understand or find his mentor. Wakelam's play has a chiaroscuro effect with characters that seem to be shifting between the light of discovery and swathes of darkness - that of unanswered questions. And, David Tennant as Minneti gives shape to all of this through this narration - a stroke of sheer genius from a narrator par excellence. This is a play that is definitely worth listening to - not once but at least twice to be able to grasp and admire its beauty and depth and also be led through Caravaggio's paintings by someone who loved and admired the art and its creator.

This is a David Tennant masterpiece!
