Publisher's Summary

In this long-awaited sequel to the international best seller The Artist's Way, Julia Cameron presents the next step in her course of discovering and recovering the creative self.

Walking in This World picks up where Julia Cameron's best-selling book on the creative process, The Artist's Way, left off to present readers with a second course, part two in an amazing journey toward discovering our human potential. Full of valuable new strategies and techniques for breaking through difficult creative ground, this is the "intermediate level" of the Artist's Way program.

A profoundly inspired work by the leading authority on the subject of creativity, Walking in This World is an invaluable tool for artists.

I wish there was a zero star rating

This is a religious book. Not a book on creativity. Utterly useless and misleading. Very upset I wasted a credit on it. Avoid.

The power of routine for the creative

What made the experience of listening to Walking in This World the most enjoyable?

This was the first book of Cameron's I've read/listened to all the way through. While we own The Artist's Way, I kept putting it down and focusing on doing the morning pages that are the main focal point of the book, and when I forgot to do them ( which inevitably happened), I never delved back into reading the book.

Walking In This World is a fantastic audiobook that's well-narrated and helps the creative create nourishing, inspiring routines that helps prompt them to create more. The main practice, like the title suggests, is the importance of walking in stimulating ideas. I do this everyday and have done so for years, and can testify that walking for an hour or so has helped me as a writer, blogger, and photographer. I see the world differently when I'm walking, and get ideas for my work and side projects.

But the book goes into more elements than just the importance of walking, and it's actually the perfect book to listen to while you are out for an evening stroll. I would also consider buying it in paperback too because at the end of each chapter Cameron gives questions for you to answer.

incredible!!

There was no struggle to finish, on the contrary...I wish there was much more. This book has inspired me to go back to writing for the sake of writing. An amazing read!

Hated this!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I liked her first book, but this is really off track. Preachy and uninspiring. Very obvious suggestions, nothing new here! Patronizing and judgmental. One of her similes is, "as needy as a child of divorce," implying at all children of divorced parents are needy. Wow!

Reread the first book and save your money!

What was most disappointing about Julia Cameron’s story?

Preachy, very preachy. I couldn't finish it.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Boredom.

A Book for the Creative Person

What made the experience of listening to Walking in This World the most enjoyable?

Julia Cameron is a great source of information and bundled creativity. She offers practical solutions to getting unblocked creatively. This book follows some of the same steps and suggestions as "The Artist's Way." which is another of her books. Each chapter is encouraging and offers practical insight with a few funny quotes thrown in.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Walking in This World?

I admit I laughed out loud when she mentioned finishing a "work" that you've been immersed in for some time such as writing a play or novel. She said, "find ways to be alone and allow yourself to come down from being immersed in that other world. You don't want your friends to think you've recently survived being abducted by aliens. We are all a little weird we're coming down off of a long creative experience." I couldn't have said that better myself.

Have you listened to any of Barbara Caruso’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I love her practical advise and encouraging words. Her sharing of her personal experiences is wonderful.

Any additional comments?

I really appreciate Julia's approach to things and her advice for staying unblocked and taking care of your spiritual and creative self is solid. I recommend this book for the creative and struggling person who needs a boost and some solid habits to put in place to be the best creative and insight person they can be.

Flawed Production of Excellent Material

Julia Cameron's material is, as always, excellent Barbara Caruso's reading is excellent. The production, however, is not divided into the same chapters as the paper book. for someone wishing to listen week by week, this is a terrible flaw.

Wonderful book, wonderfully read

When deciding to purchase this book I was a tad dubious. However, I read it whilst walking and I have went over it several times. The language and the tone of the narrator border on poetic at times. The perfect combination, very therapeutic.
